The MSBY Black Jackals were vacationing on an island when lockdown measures were put in place due to a pandemic. While the rest of their teammates managed to get on the last flight back to Japan, Kiyoomi and Atsumu didn't make it.
To be stuck in close quarters with your enemy-slash-teammate in a foreign country for an indefinite period of time...it shouldn’t be too bad, right?
(Or: Due to an unfortunate series of events, Kiyoomi and Atsumu get stuck on an island together. For seven months.)
I still haven't watched a single episode or read the manga of Haikyuu!!... But this was so so cute!
I don't tend to read fics where the main couple is stranded somewhere or has the forced proximity trope but something drew me to this fic. Stick With You is about Kiyoomi and Atsumu who are teammates that absolutely hate each other who get stuck on an island together during their team vacation. The don't make it to their flight with the rest of their team and because of that, they're stuck in the Philippines due to the COVID-19 lockdown and flight shutdowns. The rest of the fic follows them getting on each other's nerves, fighting, becoming friends and falling in love.
And on a side note, this fic definitely reminded me of the Justin Bieber & Ariana Grande song Stuck With You lmao.
I didn't think I would like this fic as much as I did but it grew on me so muchhh. While I was kinda tired of seeing Kiyoomi and Atsumu fight all the time and found the beginning to be awkward I loved the part where they started becoming friends and developing feelings. I also enjoyed how much the author put into the fic with exploring Filipino culture and with Kiyoomi's chronic illness. There was so much detail and extra side moments in the fic with the romance that prevented it from being boring or drawn out. The relationship between Kiyoomi and Atsumu was also written in an organic and realistic way with them still fighting and annoying each other but learning to communicate and loving the other wholeheartedly. Their dynamic was super cute and I loved seeing them cuddle or act cute around one another .
I also found other elements quite interesting and refreshing. It took me out for a bit when their island stay got extended for 6 flippin months, because usually its a month tops in fics with this trope, but it honestly made the fic so much better and made me fall in love with Kiyoomi and Atsumu's relationship. Alsooo it was so interesting reading a COVID fic!! Usually I hate when book authors write actual novels set in COVID-19 times or add too many elements with COVID, but this fic was like reading a little time capsule lol. It made me go back to when we were all in quarantine.
Overall, Stick With You was a super cute fic with and adorable dynamic between Kiyoomi and Atsumu, it definitely picked me up after the heartbreaking fic that was The Galaxy Is Endless and I finished this one in a day sooo 5/5 stars ⭐️.

«That night, he and Atsumu made love with tears on their faces, in a room that barely resembled what they learned to consider as home. But if all went to plan, they’d be making a new home again. Together.»
This was a fairly enjoyable read and is actually the first fic that I read that really digs deep into the Filipino culture. I didn't really realise at first that the author was Filipino and it's set in the Philippines, specifically Palawan. Good stuff.
this is literally the BEST sakuatsu fic in the world everything about it is perfect i cried a lot, sad tears but also happy tears i couldn’t even describe the way i love this fic, i love sakuatsu
