Not A Drop of Rain in Sight is the story of a 12-year-old farm child who is worried about a small herd of deer living in nearby woods. Due to a severe summer drought, the creek has dried up leaving no water for the herd to drink. One misty morning, a startling discovery is made, and a plan is devised to provide the much-needed water. There are several obstacles to overcome, but the work is rewarded the following spring with a stunning surprise!
I really enjoyed this book. There’s something about seeing the live animals in nature and the creek with actual photos instead of illustrations that made me feel like I was part of the story. I could envision how hot it was and with the drought there being no water for the animals and feeling that same worry that the protagonist of the story felt. It's a cool way to show my kids about the weather and how animals outside don’t have the luxury we do and how hard it can be for them to even find water to drink. The protagonist teaches us a good lesson about caring for others, even animals in need. Even though the family had a dryer than normal well, they spared some water each day to help the deer. It was interesting to see the white buck in the story. I don’t think I had ever seen one before. And the ending was so cute and a nice way to end everything on such a happy note.
