Slaughter of Innocents
When a virulent flu vaccine brings a high fatality rate, the leaders of several nations fearfully turn to weapons of last resort. America's population centers are destroyed outright while the population continues to decline from the virus. Jensen Carlson, fresh from another tour in Southwest Asia, is an Advanced Scout Light Cavalry instructor chosen for his experience with the Army's newest armored scout vehicle. When the first nukes hit, he headed for the hills. It didn't take long for him to reach out to his best friend, an Air Force intelligence asset named Daniel Benton. Together, they flee from the devastation and head for the northern Georgia mountains. As food and resources become scarce, they run into militant groups of survivors who are happy to shoot first and ask questions later. With senses honed by combat and an edge in weapons, they fight their way to a remote cabin they think will be safe.

I just finished the 5th and final book of the series, so this is more a review of the entire story rather than just book one.
Saying that, the first half of Slaughter of the Innocents is a little slow and I had to push through it. But I'm glad I did and I promise you won't be disappointed either.
This is less of a prepper novel and more a military thriller. The main characters have military backgrounds and those show heavily by their personalities, actions, and struggles. I'm assuming the author was prior military or at least did his research because everything is pretty accurate.
The characters are very well developed and their interactions and comradery are the foundation of the series. The world building was sufficient but never overbearing which I appreciated. The plot and story is what really kept my attention. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen things took a 180. Very engaging story throughout.
I would highly recommend this series.

Thinking man's Apocalypse
Really well structured, post-apocalyptic struggle (withOUT zombies) that is entirely believable. Interesting dynamics with characters naturally flowing in & out. It does rely a little too much on weapon calibers and terminology but. I'm sure others would be much more impressed with that than I am (and not find it detrimental in the least). I'll definitely be reading the series as it becomes available. Wholeheartedly recommend with no reservations.

A great book
This is an exciting read, full of twists and turns. It’s a great look into the military mind and what a societal collapse would probably actually look like. I definitely want ant to read more and will recommend it to my friends.

Amazingly well written book, with in-depth characters. The author has obviously researched the locations in the book! It is an exceptional view of military members struggling with PTSD and their service.

This is a very well told tale. The world building is exceptional and the characters are very believable. I could really picture the things the author described. This story really pulls you in.

Not So Hot
Lots of “filler” writing that tells the characters background but not in a concise manner. I was not impressed. I read a lot of books in this genre and this is low quality.

Read in one day
Great book, liked the characters but do not like cliff hangers. So I will let you decide if want to read or not. Otherwise I liked the story line.

Look, there's a good story in the somewhere, but there's way too much granular detail on guns. Some may find that interesting. I didn't.

Interesting but wanted more action and less banter. Good writing though and reasonable characters and settings. Will consider more of these.

Great Read
This is the first book that I have read by this author. I have really enjoyed it . Good story line. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
