Rate this book
Sometimes things will appear to be important and circumstances will arise around them that would seem impossible to predict. Sometimes those circumstances will gain a life of their own and its waves will spread outward and consume the lives and times of many who wouldn't ordinarily even know the existence of each other. This is such a story. An innocent, inexpensive bracelet, elevated in worth by the words of its inebriated creator, becomes a reason for the kidnapping of others because the bracelet has come into their possession. What follows, because of who was kidnapped, and by whom were involved in the kidnapping, an international cause for concern. It also becomes a rallying cry for some who have been abused for too long and are angry. The kidnapped, the Las Madres, find themselves in a new and dangerous life where the object is to cheat their death planned by those who want certain facts and actions to be forgotten. And, at the same time, others, with different goals, seek to keep them in their situation long enough to make those goals come about. The children of Las Madres, seeking a new future, a better one, find themselves becoming the companions and guardians of the Las Madres, even while the children of the kidnapped search to find and rescue them. For the want of a bracelet, the battle is fought, and those involved become both its victims and its heroines.
