About the author

Robertson Tait

A Highlander by birth, Robertson Tait started writing at university until “working life” got in the way. He returned to fiction writing by chance four years ago.

Robertson writes romantic comedy and contemporary stories with handsome, sensitive heroes and gorgeous, confident heroines. His characters have depth, and generally enjoy a satisfying happy ending. His stories, peppered with a strong dose of dry Scottish humour, feature lovingly described exotic locations, reflecting his extensive travels and a lifelong passion for beauty, art, good food and the good life. Since sex is a vital part of romance, bedroom scenes are passionate and intense but never crass.

Robertson generally works on several projects at once until one story puts its nose ahead of the rest, gaining his full attention until completion. He is also a prolific, but sadly underappreciated singer songwriter. He lives in the country with his wife and two demanding cats.

*I received a free copy of this book, with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

Night of the Webcam is a light, wish-fulfilment style adventure through the streets of Italy.

The setting is beautiful and evocatively described; with Venice, Verona and Rome having their own distinct characteristic styles.

In contrast, the characterisation is less detailed: the women are all beautiful and the men either handsome or, if a villain, huge and scarred. Each of the main characters is sexy and mysterious: full of dark secrets and highly skilled at espionage, reconnaissance, weapons-usage and so on. It was nice to see the female characters get their fair share of the action without needing to be rescued all the time, and also see them taking sexual agency to fulfil their desires in the same way the male characters do.

The plot is action-packed and takes a few turns along the way to keep the reader guessing. There is a lull partway through where I was convinced that the plot was resolved and winding down, but then the author spun the narrative in a new direction and set the action off again.

This is a book where you need to suspend your disbelief, not take things too seriously and just enjoy being an action-adventure hero surrounded by glamorous women in scenic locales!

The spectacle before him was truly perfect, and even the broad, flat vaporetti made a much more leisurely progress now, allowing their many passengers the opportunity to take in Venice at this magical hour, at a more appropriately sedate pace.
Kendric nodded to himself in admission, There is no night-time blue like Venice’s night-time blue. He laughed a little to himself at his own prose, finishing with a trite rhyme, It’s true. And being alone, and night-time, he indulged his rhyming silliness and ended with, But tomorrow Laura… yes, he brightened, tomorrow Laura.

Kendric is a novelist. He has a book to write. He also happens to be currently living in Venice, with the Grand Canal right outside his doorstep, and the exotic temptations are calling. Of course Kendric succumbs and that’s when the fun begins.

Kendric meets Laura. Everyone has secrets but how come it seems the really beautiful ones have the biggest secrets? Laura is no exception. Enveloped in the beguiling romance of Venice, Kendric and Laura fall for each other. But Kendric doesn’t know about Laura’s secret.

When Laura goes away to Rome on what Kendric assumes is some sort of personal business, he misses her and attempts to assuage his longing by logging onto various public webcams that show live Roman locations. During one of these sessions Kendric witnesses what appears to be a coldblooded murder. And the murderer is none other than his Laura.

What does a guy do? He could head for the hills. Or he could go after her and find out the complete truth. You can guess what Kendric does and because of this dogged devotion he soon finds himself in embroiled in a deadly war with a ring of ruthless mobsters. The only way Kendric and Laura will ever survive is if they trust and depend on one another. But what about the cold blooded murder that Kendric witnessed? Can Laura be trusted? Can anyone around her be trusted?

Robertson Tait’s NIGHT OF THE WEBCAM is a rollicking romantic suspense, filled with handsome men and gorgeous women. The author has an effortless, free flowing style that is easy to read. He effectively creates an atmosphere that beautifully matches his exotic locations. His characters are fun, if not somewhat one dimensional, but that’s OK. This isn’t Ivanhoe. It’s a fun romantic escape for anyone longing for adventure in glamorous, far off lands.

Fun read

A fast paced mixture of steamy romance and murderous intrige. The author brings Italy and France to life in a way that let's the reader feel as if they are standing in the middle ot the Piazzo. I loved this author's book, Scot Free, and was happy to find this story equally as entertaining. Looking forward to more from this writer.
