James "Jim" Shaffer would have liked to write for the movies, but the closest he came to that dream was running projectors in a Berkeley, CA cinema. So after that bubble burst, and digging the hell out of Paul Schrader stories, in 2015 he turned to writing crime fiction. His first stories appeared in online crime mag Close to the Bone who also published his novella, Back to the World.
Since, he's had stories published online in Punk Noir Magazine, Retreats From Oblivion, and The Gutter's Flash Fiction Offensive, where he also currently serves as one of the fiction editors.
As well, his "Frank Smith" stories, based on an investigator-fixer character, feature in three crime anthologies: DARK YONDER (Joyride Press), HARDBOILED (Dead Guns Press), and Blunder Woman Productions' WRONG TURN, where the audio version of his story "All That the Case Is" received a shout-out from AudioFile magazine.
At present he's working on a collection of more "Frank Smith" stories. So please stay tuned.
