Born and bred in beautiful North Carolina, I grew up hearing the Bible stories and wishing I knew more about each person's life. What happened before? What happened next? Unable to find these stories, I began to write my own books and dream of writing professionally.

True story: As a 6th grader, I turned in a book report on my own book - written under a nom de plume!

I hold a BS in Early Childhood Education, an MA in School Counseling and an MA in Religious Education. I've worked in theatre, as a hospital chaplain intern and as a teacher in both public and private schools.
As a pastor's wife, I've served as a lay counselor, written/directed dramas for worship services and co-taught marriage seminars.
My most challenging and rewarding life work has been (is) mothering our two children.

Where He Leads Me: Zipporah's Story started out slow to me. Zipporah is the daughter of the priest of Median and the oldest of the sisters. She is wise in the ways of the desert and the sheep. When a stranger appears in their midst he is made welcome. He is Moses a Hebrew slave and a prince of Egypt. Eventually Zipporah's father gives her in marriage to Moses. Zipporah has been teaching him about the sheep and survival in the desert. She hears the Lord speak to her and she is fearful in ways at times. Zipporah learns the lesson by the end that the Lord is her shepherd to be Moses 's helpmate will not let her come to harm He will give her what she needs to aid her husband in his task. Leading the Israelites out of Egypt. She learns she must trust the Lord wholeheartedly. A lesson we all must remember. Texie Susan Gregory fleshes out the story of the wife of Moses. I started this before Christmas and got only about 50 pages in when I had to put it aside, when I picked it up a few days ago I wanted to just read.

I've bragged on Ordinary Women of the Bible since I started the series, recommending it to everyone who needs something new, consistent, and uplifting to read. Very few of its books are not solid winners, with five or four stars. That said, Where He Leads Me absolutely blew me away. For a woman who is mentioned exactly once in Scripture and doesn't so much as get a full story, Zipporah turned out to be an amazing heroine.

Texie Susan Gregory knocked my socks off with her characterization of Zipporah. Some other reviewers have said they felt Zipporah was a spoiled brat and yeah, I'd be lying if I said I didn't see it. But to me, Zipporah didn't come off as spoiled. She came off as strong-willed and a Daddy's girl, a leader and a caretaker to her sheep and her sisters. She's strong and intelligent, but battles frustration and resentment when people don't listen to her, discount her knowledge, or assume she is out to get her own way. In other words, Zipporah lives in my mirror, the good and the bad.

In fact, the best spiritual thread for me involved watching Zipporah learn how to trust Moses and in so doing, trust Yahweh. Granted, I'm still single, and granted, I could fully understand Zipporah's frustrations with Moses. Yet, it was frustrating, heart-wrenching, and gratifying to watch their marriage wax, wane, and grow in real time. Along with that, I got to watch Zipporah grow from a loved but sheltered "Daddy's girl" to a true leader her Heavenly Father trusted with some major assignments, and I ended up rooting for her in big ways.

Every scene of Texie's plot positively sparkles, and hearkens back to Scripture in ways I've only seen the best books in this series do. For instance, when Zipporah teaches Moses how to shepherd, she goes into plenty of fascinating details, all of which point back to how Yahweh tenderly and firmly leads His people. The personalities, relationships, and smaller factions between Zipporah and her sisters cement them all as a close-knit family, along with Jethro, and give context to Israel's interesting if complicated relationship with Midian. And Zipporah's eventual journey to Egypt, the struggles and triumphs therein, give plenty of context to the person she became, as well as the role she might have played in the exodus.

Zipporah's actual, pivotal moment in Scripture doesn't occur until well over halfway through the novella, and there's plenty of ground to cover afterward. I didn't expect that, and honestly, I wondered where Texie would place the event and how she could center a whole book around it. I needn't have worried, though. Zipporah's confrontation itself is a powerful scene, in that it tests Moses, herself, and their sons in cataclysmic ways. Yet Texie makes Yahweh's purpose clear without obvious or heavy-handed dialogue or explanations. More importantly, the aftermath challenges Zipporah to her core, bringing her to a gratifying pinnacle of leadership.

Since this series has no order, Where He Leads Me might be a book I'll reread among the first on my next go-round. I wouldn't recommend reading it first if you've never tackled the series before, just because it is so packed with information and characters who are probably less than familiar. However, once you get there, Where He Leads Me is a beautifully written story that has plenty to say about the kind of leader Yahweh is, why His leadership is trustworthy, and the kind of leaders He still raises today, particularly among women.

I really enjoyed this story about Zipporah. The author brought her to life, flaws and all. Truthfully I didn’t relate to her as much as other women of the Bible, but I still enjoyed it. This book pointed me back to God constantly. I didn’t enjoy Zipporah’s relationship with Moses, but it felt authentic, just not the marriage I would want to emulate.

Overall, I loved the blend of Bible facts with fiction. The author did a beautiful job showing Zipporah’s faith as she wrestled with the idea of who God is, learning to be loved, and trusting God with the unknowns of life.

I think this book should have been released before Miriams story. This is about Moses' wife and how they happened to marry. Moses was already married when he returned to free his people which is what happens in Miriam's Story, the Elder Sister. But it is still good, and I enjoyed reading it. I'm always fascinated at how authors can portray feelings that make me feel what the characters are feeling.

Another great book about a woman in the Bible. This is the third book about women in Moses’ life. The first was about Jochebed, his mother, the second was about his sister, Miriam and now the third about his wife, Zipporah. All three have been very interesting and a little bit different.

I have not read any books about Zipporah the wife of Moses. I thought this one was good. I am glad I read it. I Would like to read more books about her. I know this is a work of fiction, but it is interesting to see how others envision her.
