Parallel Verse Guardians #2

A Glimmer in the Night

Rate this book
My life has been an endless march of survival and roadblocks. The gate closed, and we were trapped in the DarkVerse. We eventually made peace with the darklings, but for over a century, gatekeepers came and went, and still, we could not return home. Then I was taken against my will, and tortured for decades.

When I escape, all that is on my mind is vengeance and the drive to finally accomplish what I set out to do: open the gate.

But I wasn’t prepared for her. We plucked Jade out of a nightmare of a life. How she is even sane is a wonder to me, but the second she manifests, she is proving to be one of the best of her kind.

I shouldn’t keep watching her. My eyes shouldn’t linger. But I can’t stop. I’m astounded by this woman and everything she has overcome. And by her stolen glances, the way she doesn’t turn away from my scars of war and torture, I don’t think I’m alone in this.

She is a darkling, and I am an ultralight. We couldn’t be more different. We’re natural enemies.

But Jade has changed everything, and I’m not so sure going back to the LightVerse is where I belong anymore.

A Glimmer in the Night de Keary Taylor Serie Parallel Verse Guardians libro 2

Argumento:

No debería seguir mirándola. Mis ojos no deberían demorarse.

A Glimmer in the Night may be the second book in this series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. You can actually read either this book or the first one, first. However, I can tell you that you will definitely need to read both of these books to be able to continue on with this series after this book.

Keary has chosen to write this series a little bit different than other series I have read. A Glimmer in the Night is the world building of the Dark Verse and character introduction for those living in that universe. Book One (A Shadow in the Light) explains the Light Verse and introduces other characters living there. Might sound slightly confusing, but I assure you, it is not. Keary has intricately and purposely broke these two parallel universes up and explained their worlds and the purpose of the characters. It is truly unique and intriguing once you start reading.

OK – back to this book. A Glimmer in the Night introduces Hyrum, who is an ultralight stuck in the dark verse, along with other notable characters. Keary does a great job of explaining who and what he is along with his purpose. She also explains how all these characters are interwoven together.

For someone who read the first book, it is a bit more entertaining to see the other side of this universe. Whereas, I think anyone who reads this book first, will think the same thing about the first book. But Keary does a phenomenal job of not repeating anything, yet explaining almost the exact same thing – not an easy feat.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these new characters and this universe. Again, for someone who read the first book, there are things that start to match up and has the reader going "oh shit!" because we now have both sides of the story now and it's just so damn exciting.

Like the first book, Keary leaves us dangling by a thread as to what happens next. I am fairly certain we are going to back to the Dark Verse in the next book, but hell, for all I know, she could give us both universes in one book and tell each story in opposing views that way. At this point – I really don't know. All I really know, is that I want more and I need pronto!!

Bravo Keary for writing another clever, page-turning story that has me tangling by my fingernails.

Holyyyy crap. Keary Taylor never lets me down with her writing and this book is no different. This book was 10 out of 10 hands down. You don’t have to read the first to get the second, as they take place in different verses with different characters, which is so fun, by the way. As per usual for Keary, we’re left begging for more. A story of hero’s who constantly hang in the balance of right and wrong, finding love across time. *chefs kiss* thank you Keary for making every book you write the promise of hours of escapism. Couldn’t put it down.

Keary's done it again. What did she do, you ask? Well, her story in A Glimmer in the Night, book 2 in her Parallel Verse Guardians series just literally made me love and hate her all over again. But, all dramatics aside, I truly do love Keary's stories. Her writing has always captivated me, especially with her paranormal, fantasy, and sci-fi books.

A Glimmer in the Night is part 2 of her new book series. I would categorize this series as part fantasy, part paranormal, because there are dark and light beings that resemble as demons and angels...although they are not demons and angels in the biblical sense.

I would recommend you read her first book, A Shadow in the Light to kind of get a general idea of the Parallel Verse Guardians, but this book has different characters from the first book, although a familiar name or two are mentioned.

In A Glimmer in the Night, the main characters are Hyrum and Jade, both complete opposites of each other and yet shared similar painful pasts. While one is light and the other dark, something inexplicable binds them together and their worlds collide.

As with book one, I'm left screaming at Keary to hurry up with book 3 and book 4. The timeline of Keary's books in the new series alternate between the main characters in each of their stories. As readers and diehard fans, we have to wait just like everyone else. Too bad we can't live inside Keary's head while she writes, lol!

If you've read her first book, you'll probably remember who Hyrum is. As a Lightverse Guardian, aka an Ultralight, Hyrum was one of the few that survived a devastating war many years ago. While trapped on the enemy's side, so to speak, he endured endless years of torture and pain, trying to find his way back to his own world.

Now that he's met Jade, he finally has hope to find others like him and hopefully return home.

But as with any great story, there are barriers in the way and enemies strong enough to kill you. Who can Hyrum trust? And will he eventually find his way back to his own Lightverse?

The supporting characters are decently strong in this book. And it's a very fast read. If you've ever read Keary's book series, you'll know by now that you can rip through one book in a couple of hours only to desperately wait for the next book.

Sigh...Keary please hurry with the entire series! It's like watching an engaging show on TV and waiting until next week's episode. Only we have to wait months, lol!

Another winner, Keary! Thank you!

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

This is the second in the Paralell Verse Guardians series, but it's unique for me in that it's told from the other side of the mirror, as it were. The premise of this series is that there are two universes which are a mirror image of each other, with a gate in between. The first book was set in the light verse, and this one in the dark verse so while you could read it as a standalone, I'd highly recommend the first book too (and not only because it's pretty good, too).

This is told from the point of view of Hyrum, the sole ultralight left in the dark verse. He's mentioned in the first book but we get his world and point of view here. He's had a hard time, being held captive for the last 30 years but instead of being broken by that, he's still such a strong character. I really liked him right off, and I liked the slow development and reveal of what happened to him for all those years away. I liked the slow development of his relationship with Jade too, the pinnacle of opposites attract and I really liked it.

The story moves along at a really good pace, not too fast and not so slow you're willing things to just move on. This is a great read and technically you could read it before book 1, as the storytelling in this series is going to alternate between the two worlds. The next book can't come fast enough for me.

This book is definitely different than Book 1 even though they are parallel verses. The Light verse and the Dark verse. We have Hyrum, who is an Ultralight, trapped in the Dark verse. You get draw in quickly by the storyline of Hyrum and Jade. Reading their personal journey that both Hyrum and Jade had to go through to bring them to this point is fascinating.

As the old saying goes opposites attract. And you definitely see that here in this book. Book 2 gives you more detail on the history of how Hyrum got trapped in the Dark verse. What he had to endure at the hands of so called people of “science“. It was nothing more than torture.

It shows the strength and determination of Hyrum to do whatever is needed to survive. He will need all of his survival skills soon.

We see Jade evolving from a person who has been on her own for quite some time with just her sister. So letting someone else close to her other than her sister is huge.

I want to see where this story takes me next. I can hardly wait for the next book. I understand the author is writing the storylines alternating between the Light verse and the Dark verse characters. So Book 3 should pick back up with the Light verse storyline continuing with Serena and Jaxon.

In book one we were in the LightVerse and for book two we have moved over to the DarkVerse and following the story of Hyrum Ashmore, yes that Hyrum Ashmore, that was mentioned a few times in A Shadow in the Light. The worlds are kind of opposites to each other, one lives in the light, and the other lives in the dark, but a lot of the history is the same or similar. Hyrum, like Serena, is stuck in the wrong universe and wants nothing more than to get home. Unlike her, there are no other Ultralights, he's on his own.

Things are slightly different over in the DarkVerse though, Hyrum actually works with the Darklings, or he did until the last thirty years. I really did love getting to know Hyrum a bit more since he was mentioned in book one, and the FMC Jade. They both have similar pasts so they understand each other even if they are from different worlds.

The book is a real page-turner and a total adventure for the reader. I honestly couldn't put it down once I'd picked it up and enjoyed every single page. It's a fantastic addition to the Parallel Verse Guardians and I can't wait to see where else it goes.

Parallel Verse Guardians is a series that takes place in two different worlds, or (uni)verses. There is the Lightverse and the Darkverse. We saw our world, or the Lightverse, in the first book of the series. This go around we visit the Darkverse, where Hyrum is trapped.
You can read the first two books in any order, and after reading this one, I wanted to go back and check out the subtle nods in the other book. The worlds are parallel but not exactly. You are given hints as to what is happening on the other side, but only hints.
This story is fantastic on it's own. I might even say better than the first couple, but I am sure I will have love for them again when the next book comes out.
Hyrum and Jade are complex and determined characters. They find each other during their lowest times and vow to have each other's backs. I liked their chemistry and the natural way they connected.
The Darkverse was interesting and, once again, I can't wait to get to know the side characters even better.

I am constantly amazed at the creativity of this author, and this universe she has created is so unique! This is the second book in the series, but you don’t have to have read the first to read this one. I read the first, but this was like reading the beginning of a new series. I loved it! I loved how different this Darkverse is compared to the Lightverse, and how Hyrum is dealing with the events that happened so long ago. He is such a scarred individual, both inside and out, and Jade is the perfect person for him due to her past. And that end! Oh, my, I must have the next book soon to find out what happens. Well-written, unique, and great characters make this a wonderful addition to the UF genre, and you need to check it out! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

A Glimmer in the Night may be the second book in this series, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone. With the way these books are written, you can read book first. However, before the third book comes out, you’ll definitely need to read both the first and second book to understand what is going on.

The author has chosen to write this series a little bit different than other series. I have never read a series like this before. If it wasn’t for how amazing it was, then the way it was written would have turned me off. However, the writing and characters are amazing, so I will continue to read it.

Wow. Keary Does Not Disappoint. Another amazing book. This is the 2nd book of the Parallel Guardians Series. But it’s in the Dark Verse. Let me just say I love Hyrum. I also absolutely love Jade’s character, she is Awesome. This story just like the first one, it will have you hooked from start to finish. Just like Keary style, she will leave you wanting more. Not to spoil it, if you want to know more about the book, Read It. Thank you Keary for another amazing story. I can’t wait for more!!

Ohh wow!!! I read the first book a while ago and loved it but this one it’s even better. Jade and Hyrum my goodness they deserve their happily ever after so much. Can’t wait for the next book. The narrative was flawless and it made me wonder who the other versions of them were in the Lightverse. The nightverse seems so much more organized though. Loved loved loved it!!!
