I've just finished this book and have been left feeling that I've either read an important novel or a novel from someone who is going to make a big impact. The story is of an antisocial misfit living in a small town hating everything about it. While I was reading the spirit of Catcher in the Rye was invoked and shortly after that I read another review of the book saying exactly the same thing. Just as I thought I knew what was going on and where the book was going it took another turn which I could not have predicted. I felt a lot of compassion for the hero of the story although I'm not sure I should have. The small world in which he is trapped felt very real and the characters that populated it didn't really deserve his hatred (for the most part). I might need a few weeks to digest what I've read. It gets more than a little surreal.
