Meet monsters, ogres and giants - plus a very grumpy troll - from all over the world. Ten entertaining stories include a female Jack climbing the beanstalk, a lonely ogre and a brave little tailor whose adventure begins with some annoying flies and a pot of jam.
Rachel spent 11 years studying and teaching philosophy at the universities of London and Oxford before joining Usborne. Since then she has written books on subjects ranging from knights, to food, to philosophy, as well as retelling folk stories, and writing children's versions of numerous novels.
Read this book to my newphews and it's a nice little collection. I have fond memories of Usborne books from my childhood and it's nice to see they continue to make high quality books. And every time I think I've already read most stories, collections like this will surprise me.
This book features a nice set of stories from around the world, which gives it a nice bit of diversity. My nephews would have appreciated a bit more illustrations but they're also quite young do maybe they'll grow into this one in time.
The illustrations are good, and I hadn't heard most of the stories. I liked some of them, but not all. I have always liked The Billy Goats Gruff, so I enjoyed reading that one again.
My 6 year old and I read this book together. He very much enjoyed this book. He liked the illustrations and how each story was different and from different cultures around the world.
