A fabulous deal!

I am so addicted to this series. Don't let the negative reviews about the overfocus on female bodies bother you. This is more in book one than the rest as Seoras comes out of his twenty year shutdown from women after the unfortunate death of his wife. As his relationship with Hope develops, his increasing respect for women on the team broadens as does his tolerance for the younger generation's freer ways. He is an "old fart" that grows with the times and it is handled quite sympathetically. The plots are brilliant, characters are fun and I especially appreciated the locations personally as I have been to most of them.

Read 2 of them but found the detective a sanctimonious prick.

This was the most intense book series I think I’ve ever read. All in this series are excellent.

My favourites were The Horror Weekend that was was actually exhausted from the intensity of the action packed weekend it described. One of the best books I’ve ever had the pleasure to read.

My second most enjoyed book was Dead at Third Man. It had many possibilities in this one and the twists just kept on coming. A very diverse bunch of characters.

The third best book in the series was The Pirate Club. The travelling and short handed staffing combined with the rugged territory and slim clues made this one fabulous too. I was sure the leads were going to survive the bumps and scares they endured and solving it in such a remote place with a shortage of services certainly made this one a very difficult one to solve.

By no means am I discounting the value of any in this collection as they were all beyond reproach. They were all equals but the fear I felt and the anguish with the battles to find the culprits in the three I have mentioned did take them over the top for piquing my interest. I can’t wait to read everything this author writes. Amazing collection of nerve tweaking books that everyone should read. They deserve many more than five star ratings.

Not C21st reading

The stories/plots in and of themselves were fine ( hence the 2*'s). However, the ridiculous and inaccurate portrayal of the police service and the chauvinistic and sexually repressed Detective Inspector soured the reading experience. The Isle of Lewis has come along way from the stereotypical Wee Free controlled island and people. The bizarre internal turmoil of the Detective Inspector is worthy of an Ealing Comedy not a piece of supposedly C21st literature. Maybe this is why the author is self published? That, and the incredibly annoying grammatical errors, typos and plot inaccuracies make this an author I will avoid in the future.

Highlands & Islands

This series of five books has been very enjoyable. I have to admit that I struggled with the first book because of the Scottish dialect. However, by the end of the second book I was totally hooked. This writer works hard at including all the details of the crime and crime scene. I appreciate how difficult it probably is to meet each readers comfort zone when it comes to the diffs in each language and way of life. I highly recommend this series. In fact, I plan to start another of his series immediately.

Jordan’s great team success !

This series introduces the formation of a team of detectives which shows how the preconceived ideas of the relation ships between male and female are silly. This builds a stronger and more thought full team with careful thought given to the build up of preconceived barriers. These need to be broken down and they are slowly but surely too the success of the team! Good descriptions of the isles and Scotland’s hidden isles.

Not the most exciting detective series

I ended up skimming through this to the end. The characters were unrealistic and the dialogue very poor . I think I may just have been spoiled by some excellent detective fiction I have read recent!y. Very disappointing after the build up in the hype.

This writer is a wonderful story teller

He knows how to get inside his characters and let the reader in slowly building their allegiance to them . What interesting realistic characters they are. Terrific storylines. I read one book after the other and am set to read the remaining ones. A wonderful find.

Interesting.

It's a bit like watching a made for tv movie. Incredulous plots, good cops, bad people, horrendous errors and typos but still reasonably enjoyable. If you like detective stories without having to think too much,. these books are great, perfect holiday reading

Excellent British mysteries. Great characters, although with the number of assaults and attempted murders of officers, one must wonder why UK Police aren't armed. Four great stories, highly recommended.

Great Series

I just finished the six book set by this author. I enjoyed the main character very much and how he developed through the books. I will definitely read more books by GR Jordan.

There Has Been A Murder!

Enjoyed this set of books with strong main characters who lead the audience through the beautiful Highland and Islands of Scotland in search of solving many and varied murders and mysteries!

The author needs to spend longer writing about the police procedures and less on his sexual fantasies. The Inspector is such an unbelievable character the book is wrecked from the start. Terrible set of books

good series with believable characters a few too many fights for life with characters having to swim in winter waters with no serious medical problems or frozen body parts; but on the whole, good.
