Gentle and Lowly Journal

Rate this book
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” ―Matthew 11:28–29 In his bestselling book, Gentle and Lowly , Dane Ortlund takes readers into the depths of Christ’s very heart for sinners. Focusing on Jesus’s words that he is “gentle and lowly in heart,” Ortlund dives deep into Bible passages that speak of who he most deeply is, encouraging readers with the affections of Christ for his people. The Gentle and Lowly Journal is an ideal companion for anyone desiring to reflect more deeply on the biblical truths found in Gentle and Lowly and capture thoughts and prayers as they go. Each of the 23 sections in the journal corresponds to a chapter in the book and includes a key Bible text, a quote from a theologian of the past, excerpts from the book, and space for note taking and reflections.

Full disclosure is that I listened to book through Hoopla via Allen County Library. Book opened my eyes to the true nature of Jesus Christ my LORD and Savior. The main premise of the book can be found in Matthew 11:29 ESV "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls". The rest of the book expounds on this main point. What is further insinuated in book is it is rest for your soul rather than rest from the arduous toils of life as for some that are caregivers they have a full plate and instead the rest comes from "gaining" salvation and more importantly loosing it once it has arrived for the follower of Christ.

Beautiful and breathtaking insight in an holistically Biblical portrait of the actual heart and motivation of the King of the universe! Cannot recommend more highly.
