In Handle with Care, authors Jimmy Casas and Joy Kelly examine a variety of difficult school-related situations, both in and out of the classroom. In schools across the country, educators at every level are faced with delicate, challenging situations that require leadership skills and insights in order to produce favorable outcomes for students and staff. This book provides educators with insights into a variety of difficult-to-handle situations and scenarios that educators can relate to and may have experienced themselves. Well-intentioned, but inadequate, human responses are identified and practical ideas for handling delicate situations with dignity and respect are provided. This book will help educators develop tools and techniques to help students and staff emerge from missteps more self-aware, feeling valued, and able to move forward.
Part way through this outstanding educational and leadership text the authors state, "to truly exhibit empathy for others means we are willing to better understand what the feelings of another person are and understand what they need at that moment without judgement."
This quote exemplifies the theme of this book. Continuing the ideas and core principles from Casas first book, this takes it a step further and gives tangible ways to improve school culture and how to lead and teach with empathy as the focus. I highlighted so much in this great educational text. Highly recommend for educators.
I was excited about this concept for a book and yes, there are a lot of gems in here throughout that resonate. Keeps a positive tone while affirming reality and has a lot of tips. Would be good to reference and take in a little at a time.
There are a lot of ideas which get touched upon and you could easily dig into further. I appreciate the holistic approach and on the entire community at large.
A lot of sage advice here. It is always good to be reminded about what we already know and should be doing. The kick in the pants that may be needed to be the leader one aspires to be.
