When the Lakeshore police department’s Christmas party turns deadly and outside investigators are brought in, cupcake baker Isabel Addington once again finds herself a suspect in a murder. Someone is either trying to frame her or kill her, and it’s not clear which.
The list of people who want to silence her isn’t exactly a short one.
She’s the primary witness in a murder trial, where the family of the accused doesn’t want her to testify. Her own divorce hearing is rapidly approaching, where her husband won’t want all his secrets aired. And if that wasn’t enough, her business partner’s ex keeps showing up where he’s least wanted, blaming everyone else for his troubles.
Isabel finds herself in a game of cat and mouse with someone who seems bent on revenge. Can she figure out who’s behind it all before she loses her freedom, or worse, loses someone she loves?
Poison-Spiced Cupcakes is the fifth book in Emily James’ Cupcake Truck Mysteries.
Cupcake recipe included!
This book is a "clean" read and contains no swearing, gore, or steamy bedroom scenes. While the series is best enjoyed in order, each book is a complete mystery on its own.
I knew this was the last book in this amazing series, but I also knew that the author had talked about it enough in her newsletter and was going to close everything out on a good note. Wow, it was beyond good! She did an amazing job wrapping up Isabel's story and bringing closure for everything that'd happened to her as well as the possibilty of a beautiful new future with a great guy.
I was completely surprised by what happened toward the end, but I was sure proud of Isabel for handling things the way she did. It was pretty clear that Dan was too! You might need a tissue or two in different spots, but these are mostly happy tears for a woman who braved everything to get out of a horrible situation.
I realize Isabel's story is now complete, but I'd sure like to peek in on her life in a year or two! Huge congrats again to Emily James for such a well-told series that was able to be borrowed on KU as well.
I have lost a lot of sleep with this series. I loved these characters. Isabel was a strong survivor for what she had been through. Claire and Dan embraced her when she desperately. They paved the way for a better life for Isabel. It's wonderful when you can put your full trust in someone and know they will be there regardless. You won't be disappointed in this book at all. I hope Emily James at some point write a couple more about Isabel and Dan's life.
Hated to see this series come to an end.😭 This is a great series with no strong language and plenty of non stop action. The characters are realistic and likeable --- well most of them some not so likeable. Lol. This is the final book of the series so I suggest you start with book one so you can become familiar with the cast of characters.
I have read all of the books in this series as well as all of the Maple syrup ones. The characters are realistic. They act like normal neurotic people who are struggling to survive , to live a happy life. I knocked off 1_ star because I knew who the murder was when the second body dropped. It's still a really good read.
This book grabbed from the very beginning. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. Thankfully tomorrow is Sunday as I stayed up all night to finish it!
