Investigative Journalist Joel Baxter doesn’t investigate the normal stuff, he enjoys the weird and the wonderful. Think you have been abducted by aliens and returned, or possibly bitten by a vampire, or even possessed? then Joel is the person to find out the truth.

He’s had a devastating twelve months, as a car crash saw his only young daughter killed and his wife left in a long-term coma. Since the accident, he hasn’t been doing as many investigations but there is something about an email from a teenager who talks about a curse dubbed ‘The Crazy Season’ which has been happening every twenty years for decades, one which sees people committing suicide and that by the time Joel reads his email he most likely will be dead.

With the help of his friend’s sister Melody the pair set off for the alleged cursed town of Black Rock, but they find it hard to get people to open up to them and the more they did the deeper they realise that them getting involved wasn’t just by chance.

This is the first book by author Jim Ody that I have read, I’ll be perfectly honest I hadn’t actually heard of him until I found out about this new series. His writing is superb. He has a knack for inviting you into the world he has created and then not wanting to let you go, I can certainly say that the book had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down.

Joel Baxter has had such a heart-wrenching time. To lose a child and then on top of that his wife is in a coma, where she has been since the crash and never knowing if she will wake, and if she does the heartbreak starts all over again as she doesn’t know her child is dead.

Despite what he has been through and currently living through, Joel has warmth to him and a sense of humour. He hasn’t lost that spark for investigating and I enjoyed his methods of deduction, even in a place as strange and secretive as Black Rock which felt a bit like one of those villages you see in movies where all the residents are possessed.

Melody is a wacky and fun character. She is rude, loud, gets easily excited, and has no off switch! She brought humour to the plot, she is also a whizz kid when it comes to modern life, where Joel is old school.

These two characters worked perfectly together and they bounced off one another. The cursed plot had me eagerly waiting to find out what was really at play as I don’t believe in curses, but I was intrigued to see what was happening. There is a quote in the book in which Joel talks about curses and states ‘The power of suggestions is a fascinating thing. It’s essentially how cults work.’ I totally agree, there is no such thing as a curse but if you make someone believe that there is you hold power over them.

If you love thrillers/mysteries then this is certainly a book to pick up. It has you second-guessing what is at play and there are a few twists thrown in as well. It is exciting and I now can’t wait to continue with the series.

Once again more fun and entertainment from the very imaginative and creative writer Jim Ody. Always a unique storyline with querky characters. Wit and humour blended into a serious and intriguing plot makes great reading. A devastating car accident throws investigative journalist Joel Baxter into a spiral of depression with no hope for the future. His turning point comes in the form of a text, it's just the boot up the backside he needs to try and get himself out of a rut. With the help of his friends sister Melody the investigation into 'a curse' begins. The Crazy Season.
Melody is a colourful, free spirited and lovable character who doesn't give a damn about life but she does have a darker and more serious side that's well hidden. A sensitive young lady deep down and just the tonic that Joel needs.
It was lovely to see Jez make an appearance in this book, although briefly. A brilliant witty character that always pops in to say hello at some point in Jim Ody books.
The power of love plays a big role in this book whether it be for good or evil.......It's a mystery of mysteries that captivated me throughout, and such a sweet ending. (Not a spoiler, you will need to read the book yourself to understand what I mean by sweet!) Highly recommended.

Great start to a new series! Think X-Files, but less stuffy and modern.

Abducted by an Alien? Have a pesky poltergeist? Joel is the man to call. He a legend with solving the unexplainable. In this series opener, investigator Joel is out to solve a mystery of a cursed town and reoccurring teen suicides along with his new friend, Melody.

Right away, you get a real sense of who Joel is, the tragedies that make him who he is, which is so typically British bleak. Then you have Melody, who is just such a colorfully blunt, bright, and lovely character that helps him slowly unravel this case and a town full of secrets. Their juxtaposition and banter made this book so much fun!

In fact, all of the characters were just so unique, full of life, and colorful. The writing is also so richly UK with local slang and dialects which made it even more entertaining for me. I absolutely did not want this one to end, and can't wait for the next.

An interesting new idea from Jim. Joel and Melody are great characters and its nice to see a strong female sidekick. The concept of the story is excellent with Joel investigating a mysterious cluster of teen suicides. I enjoyed the humour and banter between characters which really helped bring them to life. I hope this is continued on into a series as it has real potential. 4.5* from me

*I received a free copy of this book with thanks to the author and to Zoé of Zooloo’s Book Tours and Question Mark Press. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

The Crazy Season follows Joel as, together with his best friend’s sister, Melody, attempts to pull himself back from a terrible personal tragedy and get back to his career investigating paranormal occurrences and (usually) debunking them.

He deals with two ‘cases’ in this story: the main one is an investigation into a series of teenage suicides that seem to crop up every twenty years in the town of Black Rock; the side plot, which offers a lighter, humorous juxtaposition, is that of Barry, the sci-fi fan who claims to have been abducted repeatedly by aliens.

Easily dismissing poor Barry’s obvious fabrications as loneliness, our odd couple – who are definitely not a couple – head to Black Rock to uncover the hoax there too. Unfortunately things in the coastal town are far more serious. Curse or not, teenager are dying, one after another, and the only apparent connection seems to be a rich girl’s party and the death of an old man forty years earlier. Could this really be a paranormal force at work, punishing the youth of the time for a past crime, or is there a more current explanation for events?

There are certainly plenty of secrets and mysteries in the town, along with a few very memorable characters, for example, the elderly pair running the local B’n’B who have perfected their comedy double act, or Martin, the Ali-G wannabe undercover informant ‘mans’. I was reminded of some of the better X-Files episodes – the monster-of-the-week ones that perfectly balance mystery and humour.

Joel and Melody make a great investigative duo, with some very interesting chemistry potential between them (again, similar to a familiar, flashlight-wielding pair). Yet, they have their own personalities and personal problems, which make for interesting character development as the story unfolds, and offer lots of possibilities for future sequels.

An ideal read for fans of mystery/crime stories that explore paranormal options, without pushing the reader in either direction, The Crazy Season is a great introduction to a – hopefully – long series of occult-ish suspense investigations!

'I hope you don’t mind me contacting you. I don’t know how to start so I’ll just get right to it. I will more than likely be dead when you read this. There is nothing I can do about it. It’s the curse, and we’ve hit The Crazy Season.'

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I loved the tense and suspense ridden atmosphere he has created in this first book in the Joel Baxter series. I do own several of this author's books and it is only now that I have got around to reading one. Yes, I am kicking myself for this lapse!

A journalist, Joel is used to strange and unusual events, it's what he is known for. So the email he receives really catches his attention. With the help of his best friends sister Melody, they go off in search of the truth behind the curse of The Crazy Season not realising what exactly they are walking into.

Right from the start, this author caught my attention and what a start it was. It sort of sets the feel of the story that follows. It is one with more to it than first meets the eye. As the chapters progressed I discovered more not only about Joel and his wife Cherry but also got more of a glimpse into what exactly Joel does. He is a journalist as such but not the manic story hungry one looking for the latest headlines. He is more about trying to help find the truth and in turn, it helps others. This also helps him. Melody, well Melody is Melody, she is blunt and outrageous in what she says, but underneath her bluster, there is a caring and thoughtful women. I liked her a lot and she made me laugh several times!

The story of the curse is one that was intriguing and the author really knows how to spin a tale. More questions than answers and false leads with the feeling of Joel and Melody going around in circles, hearing similar stories but not quite getting anywhere as far as the truth goes. It's a mysterious story with plenty of intrigues, to say the least.

The answers, or really that should be the breadcrumbs are not revealed until a lot further into the story. Up until this point, the author gives plenty for the reader to discover and think about. Introducing new characters and adding subtle hints along the way. Once things start to connect you begin to realise how well this story has been thought about. Not only that but there is something else lurking in the background.

This was such a wonderful story to read, mysterious, full of suspense and quite atmospheric. At times it had a noirish tinge to it and I really enjoyed the slower pace of the journey. It is one I would definitely recommend and I will be keeping an eye out for the next one in the series.

I've read a couple of Jim Ody's books now, but I have to say I think The Crazy Season is my favourite so far!

I saw the author posting about this a few weeks ago saying it was like a cross between the X-Files and Jonathan Creek and I can safely say that's about right, a mix of the paranormal/weird along with an intriguing mystery.

The Crazy Season is the kind of novel that drags you in, and you just sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster ride.

The story follows Joel, complete with sidekick Melody as they investigate a string of teen suicides, twenty years apart in a small coastal town. When they dig a little deeper they find more and more lies, secrets and a whole heap of teen angst.

I loved the characters. Joel with his slightly awkward demeanor but he has a kind heart, who's still grieving for the loss of his daughter and his wife in a coma. Then we have Melody, fierce and unapologetic, she brings Joel out of his shell. The two of them together were just a joy to read.

There was also a fantastic secondary cast of quirky characters that really added depth and a little dark humour to the story.

I felt the tension waned a little in the middle and I found my attention wandering a little, but the story pulled me back in with a nail biting ending.

The Crazy Season is a fantastic paranormal mystery, with a great cast of characters, that keeps you guessing until the end.

Where do I start?! This book sucked me in from the moment I started reading and continued to do so until I read that final page. Everything from the author’s style and the way he flips perspective so effortlessly, to the epic twists and carefully developed characters, this book is simply unforgettable.

If this book has taught me anything, it would be to not trust anyone or anything but your instincts! And even then, they might be wrong! I was completely blown away by this complete triumph of a book; the author has create layers and layers of mystery and uncertainty, and mixed this with characters that you love, and love to hate. Joel is an incredible protagonist that we can relate to, a character you can easily find yourself rooting for from the first few pages. If you want a thrilling story to really get your teeth into, with a dark and disturbing mystery to uncover, then I guarantee you will love this book. I already want to read it again!

The Crazy Season is a paranormal mystery that has you hooked from the very start.

Joel and Melody begin to investigate a series of teen suicides, while they are years apart it appears they may be linked. A small coastal town, full of secrets and a sense of the claustrophobia of living in a place where everyone knows everything about each resident adding a feeling of tension.

Joel is a great character, a little awkward and quiet and the bright, fierce Melody is the perfect fresh breeze of a character, just what Joel needs. A great partnership in the making.

The Crazy Season is a mystery tale with a paranormal edge and great characters and a thoroughly entertaining read.

Another great read from Jim Ody.
This is the start of a new series and is one I’ll definitely be following.
Joel asks Melody to help him investigate some deaths which seem to be linked to something called the ‘Crazy Season.’ He receives an email from someone about it and then finds out he is dead along with another teenager.
Joel and Melody don’t have much luck getting answers from the local people and the other teenagers don’t want to say much either.
It’s clear there’s more to this than a curse which is the rumour, but can Joel and Melody solve it?
This is a great story and I really enjoyed reading this book.
Jim always brings the supernatural into his books as well which I love.

The Crazy Season is my first read from Jim Ody and I loved it. The suspension, atmosphere, and intrigue this author created has me really excited to read more in this series.

The Crazy Season had my attention from the start. I really enjoyed the characters. Joel is an interesting character who is always more interested in the truth. The rest of the characters are excellent as well, but I really enjoyed reading about Joel.

The plot of this novel is unique and I was taken through quite a maze. Not everything is as it seems and the questions had the characters spinning around in circles. The mystery kept me on the edge of my seat.

I liked The Crazy Season a lot. The suspension, twists and turns, had me reading without pause. I’m looking forward to reading more of this author and series.

I absolutely loved this story. Told very cleverly from different points of view and at different times and set up beautifully for book number 2.

Joel Baxter is a man who likes to find out the truth. He doesn’t like to leave things unanswered but is struggling to move on from a car accident which left his wife in a coma. However when he receives an email which begins “I might be dead by the time you read this” he can’t help but follow it up and discovers a complicated gated community with secrets dating back years.

Every twenty years, a curse hits Black Rock. The time has come again, and the suicides have already begun.

The Crazy Season is a thriller about suicidal teenagers in a cursed small coastal town. An investigative journalist and a free-spirited woman join forces to unveil the truth separating what is authentic from superstition and encountering a bit of supernatural.

I was attracted to this book by its intriguing cover. The plot took me a little out of my comfort zone, but I enjoyed the ride.

Joel was an investigative journalist who had suffered a car accident that killed his daughter and left his wife in a coma. After a year of trying to deal with the trauma and still quite devastated, Joel was called to investigate a curse that was killing teenagers in a nearby town.

He was joined by Melody, the carefree sister of his best friend, who had previously lived in the cursed town.

One of the things I loved the most about the story was Joel’s commitment to his unresponsive wife and how he managed to foster a genuine friendship with Melody despite their opposite personalities.

There was always something exciting happening to keep me turning the pages.

The side characters were very varied, and some of them stole the show for a little while, especially the alien abducted Barry with his imaginary/ inflatable girlfriends.

The end was pleasantly surprising and upbeat. I’m curious to know what comes next for Joel and Melody.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Journalist Joel Baxter likes reporting on bizarre cases and event and became famous when he unveiled the fraud behind a scandalous hoax a year ago. Then on the way to a well earned holiday, his young daughter was killed and his wife Cherry was left in a coma after a car crash. That was a year ago and Joel has since moved from Wiltshire to a quirky lighthouse with a cottage attached a stone’s throw from where Cherry remains on life support. He visits her every single day and has never given up hope that she will return to him. Amongst all the communications from alien abduction weirdos and the like, Joel receives a strange email from a lad called Timothy. Intrigued, he and his friend Melody, a vibrant hippie character who always speaks her mind, head off to Black Rock to the bar Tim mentions. Weirdly, the locals all appear to be expecting them and later on they meet up with the girl Sally who Tim had mentioned in his email. She tells them of the siren curse which has now happened twice now, every 20 years. Teens all committing suicide within a few days of each other. It seems to have started up again. This is just the start of the adventure to solve the mystery of why the town is cursed every twenty years. And it will be just the tantalizing thing Joel needs to bring him back out into the world again.
This is a great tale, full of mystery and suspense from an author with a very creative imagination. Joel and Melody are brilliant characters, very well drawn and whose contrasting personalities and caring witty banter make a great team for this strange and wonderful story. 5*

*I voluntarily reviewed this book from the tour organiser.

A quirky and unique new series with a difference, THE CRAZY SEASON by Jim Ody is a must-read for crime fiction and thriller fans alike.

Joel Baxter's world was torn apart when an accident claimed the life of his daughter and left his wife languishing away on life support for months on end. He needs something to fill his days and occupy his mind so when he gets an email talking about a cursed town, he decides to look into it (after all, he is known for solving the strange and the unusual). But nothing in the town of Black Rock is quite what it seems and even with the help of his friend, Melody, there are many twists and turns along the way. And it soon becomes apparent that Joel was meant to be involved with this case from the very beginning ...

Unconventional in the terms of a typical thriller, THE CRAZY SEASON draws the reader in with a fresh plotline and eccentric characters that burrow easily into your heart. I enjoyed getting to know Joel, and Melody brings that burst of colour and vibrancy that is missing from Joel's life. The cursed town and the secrets that exist in Black Rock are all excellently woven throughout the story so that the reader is kept on their toes, and there is truly never a dull moment in this book, which is no mean feat.

Engaging characters and a story with an excellent thrill factor, THE CRAZY SEASON by Jim Ody is definitely a series that I want to continue, and I look forward to the next installment.

The start of a new series and I loved it. I’ve read a few books by this author and enjoyed them all but for me this one took it to a new level. It’s quite a long book but I never got bored just eager to find out what was going on. The writing was so good I was totally immersed. I loved the two main characters, they are both immensely likeable.

Briefly, Joel Baxter is an investigative journalist who searches out strange and weird stories and tries to solve them. However, for the last year his work has stopped; following a fatal car accident, in which his daughter was killed, his wife has been in a coma. He visits her daily and strikes up a friendship with a nurse there, Carol, who seems to understand him.
But when he gets a message from a boy saying he needs help Joel decides to investigate the teen suicides that reoccur in this beachside community every 20 years. His friend Melody, a free spirit, with connections to the place the suicides take place, joins him in his quest.

The interaction between Joel and Melody is great. Her openness about everything and her honest way of speaking does shock him a little at times but he loves her freedom, and so did I. It was very difficult to guess what was going to happen and I loved this about the book. The twist at the end was a real shock. All in all this was a great book and a deserved 5* read from me. I can’t wait to read book 2.

Why I've never read a Jim Ody book before is a mystery because The Crazy Season makes me want to read more. I loved the darkness in the book. It had an unsettling sort of feel to it and that kept me on my toes, but, because it was mingled so well with humour, it was sort of balanced. Which brings me on to Melody - what a brilliant character she is. As Joel's sidekick, she is the light to his darkness and her straight talking, humour had me in stitches, or laughing out loud throughout.

Ody, builds the tension from scene one where we see Joel fall into the darkest slump ever. However, the tantalizing carrot of the teen suicides in a nearby coastal town allow Joel to re-engage with the world around him.

Ody brings the characters to life through skillful dialogue and pertinent observations of human idiosyncrasies. using only a few words he is able to make the reader see beneath the dialogue to what's going on in the minds and hearts of the characters.

I also became really invested in the idea of an investigative journalist in the lead role. This was a welcome change from a normal police procedural, but still with the investigative element.

The setting of a coastal town with a dubious gated community at one end combined with teen suicides, secrets and threats keeps the tension on high throughout.

I'd recommend this as a richly deserved Five Star read!

I've never read anything by Jim Ody before but The Crazy Season will not be my last outing with one of his books! As The Crazy Season is the beginning of a series, it's a great place to start and it is a wonderful introduction to some colourful and brilliantly created characters. It is clear from the very beginning that Joel has a lot to give the reader and there is a lot going on in his life in which the reader can invest. His background is very well thought out and developed. His partnership with Melody is brilliant: it gives us some much needed humour and I love the way they bounce off each other, both in terms of their personalities and the way they approach the case.

The teenagers that are at the centre of the case are also very well constructed and their mannerisms are really well observed. The case itself is intriguing and I definitely wanted to get the bottom of it. There are a lot of changes in terms of viewpoints and time shifts but this is always clear and never confusing and I did think it helped to be able to look at the wider story.

The ending of The Crazy Season is very tense and this comes almost out of nowhere! There were so many twists and turns and each one took me by surprise. The case concludes in a very explosive way and I was desperate to find out what would happen.

I am looking forward to seeing where Ody takes these characters next - just as soon as I have recovered from that ending, which I must have read with something in my eye.

The Crazy Season is a mystery with a difference. The book focuses on the need for the truth, it looks at lonely people and the lengths they would go to in their search for attention and a few minutes of fame. How easy modern technology has made that, while old fashioned superstition and folklore still manage to play a part in the modern world.
The author tells the story from various characters perspective while jumping between the past and the present. This allows the reader to feel like they are part of the story, getting to know the characters and fitting the puzzle pieces together as the story unfolds.
Joel Baxter had everything, a loving wife, a beautiful daughter, and a successful career. Until an accident steals it all away in the blink of an eye. Now Joel is struggling to find a reason to get out of bed and face another day. He has lost his daughter and his wife is in a coma, a year later there is little hope of Cherry ever waking up again. While Joel visits her every day, refusing to leave her unattended.
When Joel receives an unexpected email about a town with a curse, a curse that causes teenagers to commit suicide every twenty years, he is intrigued and eager to get to the bottom of this mystery. Partnering with Melody, an out-spoken friend with a secret of her own, they head to Black Rock in search of the truth. Only to discover their involvement is not accidental, but part of a plan.
The Crazy Season is a creative piece of fiction that draws you in and leave you eager to reach the end. I enjoyed the story and loved the surprises along the way. Unfortunately, I was left with questions, little bits and pieces that did not add up, questions that were not answered. I hope the author will be continuing the story and answering some of these in a second book. The story was good, and I have no issue saying that I enjoyed it – up until reading the epilogue. These last few pages, well they simply did not work for me. Maybe it’s just me, you are going to have to read it for yourself and make up your own mind.
The characters were an interesting mix. I enjoyed Joel, a man dealing with loss and uncertainty who manages to hold onto hope when the odds are against him. I enjoyed his discomfort at times around Melody. As for Melody, well she appears to be a strong sidekick when in truth she has her own insecurities and issues that she hides behind a well-rehearsed front. Using the shock factor to hide her weaknesses. The author did a really good job with this character.
The Crazy Season is full of mystery and manages to keep you intrigued as the pieces of the puzzle fit together. I liked the story even if the epilogue was a little disappointing. The book will appeal to mystery fans that love an unexpected surprise at the end.

Joel Baxter is an Investigative Journalist with a promising career and a loving wife and child. Tragedy strikes, changing his life forever. His wife, Cherry, is in a coma and his devotion to her is evident. He visits her in hospital and plays the same song to her each visit. He is intrigued when contacted about a "curse" on Black Rock which sees a number of teenagers committing suicide. He teams up with Melody, a bit of a wild child but a great supporter. The story is full of mystery as Joel and Melody attempt to extract information from reticent locals. Is there a curse or is a more earthbound reason for the deaths the answer? The story is riveting with so many twists along the way. I particularly enjoyed the short appearance of Jez, the quirky IT guy from other Ody books and a favourite of mine. A great book.

Joel is a journalist who has come to specialise in the unexplained and quirky. His appetite for these investigations has waned since he was in a serious car accident; his best friend tries relentlessly to re-engage him but it’s an email that does the trick. The gist of the email, received from a teenage boy, is that by the time he reads it, the boy will be dead.
Joel becomes immersed in a spate of teen suicides with Melody, his best friend’s sister, as a very willing sidekick. Melody, is a brilliant character, says it as it is and drags Joel back in to what he does best.
I loved this book. Some real, laugh out loud moments (naked yoga, for example) and the chemistry between Joel and Melody is great, you can imagine them as your mates.
Great start to a new series (hopefully) and if I could have given it another half a star, I would. It’s definitely different; highly recommended.

When Joel, a journalist famed for his investigations into weird and bizarre cases receives an email about a cursed town, it’s not long before he travels to Black Rock with his straight talking friend Melody, to uncover the truth behind the current spate of teenage deaths and the history of The Crazy Season. But there are many secrets in Black Rock but nobody who will speak.
I really enjoyed this book as it has everything I need in a page turning thriller. As I’ve come to expect from this writer, there are many twists and turns to keep me guessing to the end. I also enjoyed the relationship between Joel and Melody so I’m looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
There’s also a beautiful love story running throughout the book which hooked me in even deeper.
This is another great read from this Jim Ody and once again I ended up sacrificing sleeping for reading.

"The Crazy Season" is quirky, weird, and strange - much like the case Joel Baxter is called on to investigate in this first book of the "Joel Baxter" series. It's a fun read, with some great characters and an entertaining plot. It's also written very well, making this a fast and enjoyable read. I can't help but wonder what book 2 has in store...

Overall I absolutely bloody loved this. It was mad, it was funny, it was clever, it was addictive and I really cannot wait to read more about those two. The twists at the end, wow.

The characters in this are great. Joel is struggling after losing his young son, and his wife remains in a coma. He generally gets the crazy jobs as a private investigator, people that think they've seen aliens etc.
However one case comes up, via a letter from a young man that says he's not going to be around when he reads it.

It's Melody that makes this book I think, the story is great etc but Melody is hilarious and I love her carefree attitude to life.

I'm a big fan of Jims books and this new one, with the introduction of a new character, certainly didn't disappoint. I love books that have an element of the unexplainable - combine that with twists and turns makes for a fantastic entertaining read.
Can't wait for the next in the series!

Another great book from Jim, I enjoyed the new characters Joel & Melody, when they got going and can see this partnership working in other storylines. The pace of the story as it unravelled was great and keeps you hooked throughout. Definitely recommend

Another cracking read from this Author and I am happy it’s the first in a series. I took to Joel and Melody, can see their partnership growing with each new adventure. Touching side story for Joel too. Plenty of twists and suspense in this one. Overall a great book, highly recommend.

I have read quite a few of Jim's books, and i think this one may have just pipped it to being my favourite so far!
Loved the relationship between Joel and Melody - they really bounce well off each other and are both likeable - and of course lovely to quickly meet Jez again, and a mention to another authors book in there too.
Really great book that I didn't want to put down, with lots of little twists that I didn't see coming!

So I have a little confession to make. I haven’t actually read any of Jim’s books……until now that is. I have heard lots of great things about his books from other book bloggers, so I decided that I would try one to see if I would like it. Well like it I did and then some. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Crazy Season’ but more about that in a bit.
I have to say that ‘The Crazy Season’ is a little different to the usual sort of stuff I read in that I don’t often read stories with a horror and supernatural element to them. They do say that a change is as good as a rest and so I started reading in eager anticipation. It didn’t take me long at all to get into this story. In fact by the time I got to the end of the first few pages, I knew that I would find it rather difficult to put the book down for any length of time. The storylines and characters intrigued me and I had to keep reading to see how the story unfolded and if my suspicions were going to prove to be correct or if I had wandered down the wrong road. The pages turned quickly as I worked my way through the story. I found that I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. I found ‘The Crazy Season’ to be a gripping read, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
‘The Crazy Season’ is extremely well written. The author certainly knows how to catch your eye with an intriguing synopsis and then draw you into the story from the start. Jim can certainly tell one hell of a story and then some. For me ‘The Crazy Season’ started with a bang and then maintained a fast pace throughout. At times reading ‘The Crazy Season’ felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I felt as though I was part of the story and that’s thanks to Jim’s very vivid and realistic storytelling.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Crazy Season’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Jim’s work in the future. Having enjoyed reading ‘The Crazy Season’ as much as I did, I am now rather ticked off at myself that I left it this long to discover how good Jim’s books are. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
