What Does it Mean to be Brave?
What does it mean to be brave? Does it mean climbing the highest mountain or swimming with sharks? Bravery means doing something even though we are scared. Sometimes we need to be brave for big and scary things in far off places and sometimes we need to be brave for things that make us nervous in our everyday lives.
“What Does it Mean to be Brave?” uses everyday examples and beautiful West Coast imagery to demonstrate how children use bravery to try new things, to persevere when something in challenging, to make new friends, and to make kind choices.
Being brave happens every day. When were you brave today?

I now have two copies of this book! One at home for my toddlers and one for my classroom. I appreciate the range of examples that the book discusses - this makes it easy to read with any age group. The illustrations are beautiful and my toddler loves having to hunt for the hidden hearts on each page!

The perfect picture book to explore the meaning of BRAVE with young children. The story starts with all the typical ways children (and adults) think about ‘what it means to be brave.’ We then get into all the more meaningful, daily ways that children (and adults) are brave everyday. I love how the pictures and examples are very realistic and relatable to readers, and I also appreciated the diversity of characters represented. This makes for a great read-aloud and teaching tool, accompanied with great discussion questions in the end.
Well done!
