Messages: Evidence for Life After Death

Rate this book
If you had asked George Dalzell, a professional psychiatric social worker, a few years ago if he thought he'd be talking with the dead, he would have said, 'no way.' Yet, when his close friend Michael, an airline purser from Germany, was killed, things started happening that permanently shifted Dalzell's "perspective on reality." As a therapist, Dalzell had counseled people who claimed to hear voices. Now, Dalzell was hearing a voice himself, and it was that of Michael. The voice revealed information about Michael's private life and possessions. Other phenomena followed, including apparitions of Michael, house lights that blinked on and off, alarm clocks that got moved, and rose petals left in the pattern of an angel. "Michael appeared to have brought evidence that there was a dimension beyond our five senses, and that he could keep the channels open," writes the author. In all, Michael opened the channels to seven friends, family members, and colleagues. He provided incontrovertible signs that proved it was he who was communicating with them. Further confirmation of Michael's continued existence and the legitimacy of his after-death communications was provided by independent contact with professional psychics and mediums. In Messages , Dazell adds empirical confirmation to a field that is gaining increasing popular and scientific respect. His encouraging conclusions may comfort grieving families and calm the natural inclination to fear death, with its perceived separation and loss.

A SEARCH FOR EVIDENCE OF AN AFTERLIFE THROUGH MEDIUMSHIP

Author and therapist George E. Dalzell wrote in an introductory section of this 2002 book, “The following is a true story. Conversations are reconstructions based on memory. Medium consultations are taken from verbatim transcripts of sessions preserved on audio tape. Others are re-creations based on memory. The surnames ‘Bennett’ and ‘Reicher’ are pseudonyms. All other names are those of the actual parties involved.”

He explains in the first chapter, “Have you ever wondered what it would be like to continue communicating with a loved after death? My firsthand experiences have demonstrated that such a thing may be possible. As you will see in the pages that follow, I present evidence of what appears to be a series of contacts between this world and that appears to be a spirit world we call ‘heaven.’ I credit the best-selling author and spiritual medium, James Van Praagh, for opening the door to my experience, and for creating a greater public awareness of the phenomena of mediumship and after-death communications …The random act of seeing a television demonstration of mediumship by Van Praagh led me to an unconventional path in which I used mediumship in an experimental way to help a family in bereavement…

“In an informal experiment, I tested mediumship by both acting as a medium and by consulting professional mediums in an attempt to test this hypothesis. The resulting experiences changed my life and touched the lives of a group of people in a therapeutic way. It is my conviction that our story carries the potential to help redefine spirituality and the way we look at life after death. I hope that the publication of this story will help establish and further a need for serious research of … mediumship.” (Pg. 1-2)

He muses, “I had always been skeptical about the existence of lie after death. On the other hand, the topic remained a passionate mystery to me for as long as I can remember. I’ve always believed that, if we survive bodily death, there must be a way to come back and prove to the ones left behind that there is a dimension beyond our present life on Earth.” (Pg. 9-10)

He recounts, “I went to Lily Dale, a Spiritualist community near … New York, in search of a medium … Summer after summer I visited Lily Dale, but regrettably, only one medium appeared to provide a message that seemed authentic, and its portent left me skeptical.” (Pg. 12)

He states “The pivotal event that led to the experience that is the focus of this book happened ‘by chance’ shortly before I heard the news about Michael’s death… I came across … a television program titled ‘The Other Side,’ which featured… James Van Praagh… [I] found myself wondering: could Michael SPEAK TO ME and could mediumship somehow help the … family in their bereavement? If Van Praagh … could talk to strangers who had died… why couldn’t I speak to Michael? I made a conscious choice to try my hand at mediumship.” (Pg.13-15)

He recounts, “I closed my eyes, and then … Michael’s face seeming to materialize as if pressed through some substance from another dimension… He sent me the thought, ‘I will appear for ALL of you!’ It appeared that if this communication was genuine, then Michael could be put to the test.” (Pg. 60)

After more contacts, “we … felt relieved of some of our mixed feelings surrounding Michael’s death. We… wished there was something we could have done to prevent his death, but… it had been beyond our control. The impending doom that seemed to haunt him, and the stimulants that had made his life unmanageable, were now a thing of the past. Michael had moved on.” (Pg. 81)

But states, “By now, I was curious to consult professional mediums to see if they co0uld replicate my experiences with mediumship with the spirit of Michael Keller. I was seeking confirmation through other mediums that Michael could communicate specific facts that would provide further evidence that he had survived death. The ADCs [After-Death Communications] we had experienced provided tantalizing anecdotes, but did not constitute empirical evidence of Michael’s continued existence n some afterlife form. I now sought to put Michael to the test---could he repeat the communication phenomenon via informal mediumship experiments?” (Pg. 95)

He attended a session of the Scole Experimental Group of Norfolk, England. He was favorably impressed, and observes, “I reflected that by making contact via the Scole Group, Michael appeared to have communicated with or through SEVEN people to date…” (Pg. 115)

He concludes, “My life has prospered in many ways, both professionally and interpersonally. I was )the gift that started with communications with Michael now extends to others, and I continue to accept referrals as time allows. I have become an advocate of research of mediumship in a controlled lab setting.” (Pg. 140)

He adds, “I look forward to future efforts of researchers who incorporate science and spirituality to work together in greater harmony as we proceed into unexplained domains, regardless of the outcome. I remain open to the data and discoveries that result from having science put spirit to the test, and remain committed to actively participate as a research subject in the years to come.” (Pg. 142)
