The Addiction Diaries

Rate this book
The clinical side of addiction—a disease that takes the lives of over 150,000 people a year—is written about, analyzed and hotly debated by media outlets the world round.

As a result of the overwhelming attention to the facts and figures, the personal side often gets neglected.

The Addiction Diaries: Stories of Darkness, Hope and All That Falls in Between is here to remedy that. By turns amusing and insightful, disturbing and illuminating, 18 writers from all socioeconomic levels, races and relationships with addiction share stories that will stay with you long after you read them.

A woman trying to save her brother from his gambling addiction. A child heroin user who recovers and finds a calm life. A mother of two addicts who watches them go from jail to freedom. A former bank robber reflecting on nearly two decades of sobriety. Some of the stories may rattle, disturb and bemuse you; all will illuminate addiction like nothing that has come before.

An instant classic in the addiction recovery genre, The Addiction Diaries will leave you astounded by the triumph of the human spirit and give you an understanding of addiction that goes far beyond the headlines.

I bought this book because it has two authors I like in it. It was decent reading material. Very twelve step oriented. Some good stories.

The Addiction Diaries is an amazing collection of stories focused on recovery from addiction. Each of these narratives shows the incredible courage and strength it took to either recover from addiction or how addiction affected the author’s family and what they worked on to stop the generational patterns of dysfunction.

Inside each one, I found nuggets of hope and new life skills that I added to my own path of recovery. Highly recommended, not only for addicts, but for everyone, to help see behind the veil, the curtain, of addiction and to know we can make change when we’re willing to push through the adversity of life.

Good book. All the stories left me wanting more, glad to see some of the contributors have books and ones already on my shelf. This book definitely inspired me to check out the editor and really made me realize I want to write a book and to just for for it! Anna David has a lot of great resources and a class I purchased that really sparked the fire. I also order one of Anna’s books too. It was a great account of all very different story’s in addiction and it was a great, short easy read. Read it in two days with lots going on, but able to finish it quickly and wanted to finish it and keep reading.
