After all, we’ve brought with us a slew of problems.
A turned human.
A rogue succubus.
A rival pack on our heels.
I’m not dead yet, but whether or not I make it out alive is still yet to be seen. Roman, Elon, and Teague might do their best to protect me, but they can only do so much. Especially when it seems like their entire world is out to get me.
And it’s not just the shifters.
We’ve awoken an ancient rivalry, one that can only end one way. In the shedding of blood.
In Roman’s absence the Nashville pack has fallen into chaos—a pack now hardly fitting to protect us from Rylan’s impending ruin. But they’re all we have.
And Roman … Roman is all they have. All their hope.
And he won’t take his place, so it’s going to have to fall on someone else to do it.
Sydney has had her first shift, but can’t control it. With the prospect of Ryland breathing down their necks, Roman, the alpha of their small pack, makes the decision to return to his birth pack. For protection. But he’s not sure how he, or his little pack, will be received. It’s an icy reception, but they aren’t turned away. Sydney cannot understand why Roman won’t assume the role of alpha for his pack. But there’s so much painful history that she’s unaware of. On top of all this, there is a war brewing with the incubi and succubi but no hunters to help with the fight. A betrayal occurs which is a very bad thing for this struggling pack.
I really really love the storyline. I just can’t seem to get past the pacing of the story. It just seems to drag on. If I weren’t so interested in the story, believe me, I would have given up already. As I stated in my review of the first book, Alpha Rejected, I think the poor pacing is because we’re stuck, for so much of the book, in Sydney’s head. I think things would have been so much better, and more interesting, if this story was told from multiple POVs. And while Sydney hasn’t made the TSTL list (yet), she does appear to be on dangerous ground in this book. The saving grace, for me, is Elon. Oh what a man. I’m almost sorry that he’s in this RH, because he deserves a book, and a mate, of his own. Roman is still an ass, but more comes out about his backstory and there is a lot of pain there. Teague is one character that needs more development. The odd thing is that his brother makes an appearance so you’d think that we would get a better understanding of what happened to him, in his birth pack, that would result in his banishment. But nope. It’s still a question. So for me, character development hasn’t been done well in this series.
In any event, there’s one book left and I am curious how this is all going to end. So I’ll go ahead and read it. But my recommendation is the same as the first book. If you have other books on your to read list, I’d go there first. But this is a good filler between series.
There are no words for how good Alpha Rising, the second book in the Feral Mates series, was. I didn't know what I expected from this book but I didn't expect this. So much happened and I devoured all of it, I loved it.
Sydney survived her first shift, and now a whole new complex world is open to her, one filled with wolf shifters, hierarchy, feuds, and territories. Having known nothing about the supernatural world, let-alone wolf shifters, newly turned Sydney has a lot to learn, a lot to get adjusted to. One of my favorite things about this book is the description of Sydney's scenes, what she's processing, and how, it was described very well and was very interesting seeing her process every, to feel what she got to experience as a new wolf was really cool. Not only is she getting used to new wolf senses she has to get used to Roman's old pack, where she isn't exactly welcomed and neither is Roman for that matter so dealing with slightly hostel shifters, new rules, new information that all the other wolves around her already know is a bit much. However, Sydney is dealing with it well, while it's overwhelming at times she is doing really great and I loved that she wanted to know everything about the wolves. I liked learning more about the wolves in the story, their history, what they believe in, how they interact with not only other packs but with each other.
Roman, Elon, and Teague are her fated mates and they are right there by her side, I love how Elon and Teague are right there for her, comforting her, reassuring her of their love. Roman while he does care had a hard time in this book, he was dealing with his past and a lot of his own issues. It was Sydney's turn to step up and be emotional support for Roman, to be protective of him but help him work thru his stuff. Something I didn't get in the first book was how bonded Sydney, Elon, Teague, and Roman are. Yes, they are a pack but the bonds there are really strong and seem to be growing only stronger.
There were a bunch of new characters in this one but the ones that stand out the most are Isla, Roman's sister who is strong, feisty, loyal, and has a sense of responsibility like none I've ever seen. She stepped up in her pack when Roman didn't and while it may have cost her she didn't back away from it, she cares about the pack and is willing to sacrifice to keep them safe. Isla is married to Conan and he is a gentle giant, the man has such a kind soul, I could sense it, and then it's the fact that he and Isla have switched traditional gender roles, he raises their children while Isla leads the pack, he doesn't complain and love his children, it was sweet. Finally, one other character that really stood out to me, Teak, an incubus who is so different than what many would expect from an incubus. He has certain personality aspects which I could help but relate to and that made me like him right away. He was there only briefly but I hope to see him again.
The story was great, like I said more wolf history, politics, and all that but a little more information about the demons was revealed as well. I thought that I had such a clear picture of the succubi in this world but turns out I was wrong. The demons are more complicated than I thought and it was interesting learning more about them. It was also hinted that there are more supernaturals in this world so I'm wondering if there will be more books from Eden and Sabrina in this world, I would it if there were.
A lot of emotional issues were worked out in Alpha Rising and Sydney has not only bonded more with her guys but with the pack as well, even if it wasn't great at times. I loved Sydney learning to accept her wolf and becoming stronger in her new world. A lot of things happened, more than a few surprises and I have a couple of questions, one of the main ones being what was that ending. The story ended on such a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that had me yelling "what the..." at the book. With an ending like that the wait for the next book is gonna be too long because I have to know what's gonna happen next. The Feral Mates series is a trilogy so Sydney's story concludes in the next and final book, Alpha Returned and I am ready for it.
I actually really really liked the first book of this trilogy. It had all the right emotions, build up, and romance even if Sydney had a lot of issues with dependency and confidence. It was a beautiful evolution in book one even if I could never imagine myself reacting to things the way she did, at least the thought process made perfect sense.
In book 2 everything was just lost for me. I adored the male leads in book 1 and in book 2 it really took a nose dive (outside of Elon ofc). Roman just pissed me off and his trauma while relevant was more like an excuse, every questionable action from book 1 was just founded to be proof of his extreme irresponsibility towards everyone. And sheesh Sydney lost any character development, she became consistently too dependent on everyone to the point that she felt extremely childlike and everyone treated her as a child on top of that (very uncomfortable).
ALSO wth is going on with Rylan, is he uncle or cousin to Roman? And if so how the hell could he have been the fated mate to Isla then? On top of that how could he even end up as Sydney’s if he was Isla’s then? Who is setting this sh*t up? Where do the marks come from? Just a huge plot hole that I feel completely disturbed the flow of the series pushing it into a weird janky path that is mighty uncomfortable to read or think about.
After reading the excerpt and reviews for book 3 I have decided to quit this series.
This is the second installment in the series and is basically about their journey to Nashville where Roman's pack is or should I say Isla's pack.
So basically this book is about Roman and him working past his troubles in the eyes of Sydney and them trying to make peace with the incubus and their other demons, but they're the good ones that kill vial humans. But Rylan shows up and kills them all and is apparently Sydney's mate as well according to the same mark on his neck and she accepts to be his queen not because she wants to but because she needs to take him down I think. Roman's character development in this book was amazing but this man is a stubborn 54-year-old, Teague is 42, and Elon is 28 but they all look in their 20s. I was so astonished about Roman's age. But their relationship was kinda not shown a lot but there were some parts with her men and she loves them. I hate Anuba like she was supposed to be loyal to Roman, not a traitor. I hate Roman's father because of what he did to Roman and Isla, you should have a least had a bad death. Um, I'm excited about the third book.
Solid 4.95/5, just because their relationship wasn't exactly shown as much but I loved the action.
Found this a frustrating slow read. Sydney & the guys head to Roman's old pack where we're introduced to his sister Isla, who I really enjoyed as a character, she has been looking after the pack in Roman's absence & not very happy about. It felt like a large portion of the time the pack is sitting around eating & going off on Roman about why he abandoned the pack & how could he have gone after Deliha but then that succubi / incubi are enemies & need to be stopped.....(huh make up your mind). It felt like too many breadcrumbs have been left with not enough answers. Has still not been fully explained why Teague was kicked out of his old pack, even after a confrontation with his brother. More on the religious side of the wolves is explained & there is a big breadcrumb of a scene with Isla & Sydney that seems like a big deal but it is never explained. The middle just seemed so flat & couldn't wait to get to the end for some action, but does end on one hell of a cliffhanger. The romance / sex is light.
Ok I like this series but it feels like it’s lacking in some way and I can’t point it out sorry. I’m a huge shifter fan and an even more RH fan. Book 1 was a slow burner. Again I enjoyed reading it from Sydney’s POV and joining her on her journey.
Book 2 - She’s now made it and is now a shifter herself. Again it’s Sydney’s POV and again it feels like it’s another slow burner with very little with her relationship with the three shifters. I feel like she’s hardly learnt much in this book about shifters etc It’s lacking the action and the plot where you have to know what happens next if that makes sense. It’s a shame as I feel like it could have more potential. I’m not sure if it’s written for a teen age group.
Omg that plot twist at the end!!! Omg!!! This book definitely did NOT go the way I thought it would! I feel like I've been left with so many unanswered questions about the world these characters are in, and how things work. So so sad about the losses. This series is definitely not centred around the relationship like I expected it to be. It's more focused on Roman's journey to claiming his rightful place, but through the eyes of Sydney. I find myself hoping that she'll actually take his place instead. A good, solid read. A little disappointing that the steamy scenes were Fade-to-Black (FTB), as it would've added another element to the story, but it's not a big deal as the story itself is good. Looking forward to seeing how things go in book 3, especially in regards to that ending!!!
Wow, this book had it all! Action, family drama and pack dynamics and the always devastating, cliffhanger.
I loved seeing Sydney navigating being a new shifter as well Roman's dynamic with his old pack and new pack. You can definitely see Sydney's wheels turning in her head during the whole book and how those decisions will affect everyone in the third book, I guess we will have to wait and see. But that cliffhanger at the end? Definitely wasn't expecting that! While you weren't left wondering the fate of anyone's lives in the story at the end, you were wondering about decisions being made by the main characters in the story. It's definitely going to be tough to wait for the third book!
In this book, the group all heads to Roman’s old pack to seek protection. His sister immediately says yes. She just wants to bring Roman back into the pack. Sydney starts to learn more about pack life. She’s deemed herself the problem-solver, but not everything works out the ways she expects. Thanks to someone from Teague’s past we are learning that the guys are still keeping secrets. I did not like how Roman treated Syd in this book, but I suspect that those troubles won’t amount to anything compared to what is coming, I’ll take the next in the series now.
Sydney has survived her first shift but that doesn’t mean the danger has passed so our little pack find themselves returning to Romans old pack seeking protection.
We learn more about why Roman rejected his birthright of being Alpha and the repercussions it’s had on his old pack but honestly those reasons although understandable are quite anticlimactic. This book also hints there may be more to Syd than your average shifter so hopefully book 3 will make things clearer.
This is a quick read completed in a few hours and has a cliffhanger ending.
The story keeps you engrossed in what is happening. You can feel yourself becoming part of the story as an outsider looking in. Roman has gone back to the pack that he was supposed to be Alpha of on the death of his father. He does not feel like he should be the Alpha due to what his father did. Romans sister, Isla, has been trying to hold the pack together but she is not an Alpha. There are so many emotions packed into this story that you are constantly feeling everyone of them. Looking forward to the next book.
3.75 rating Syd and her fated mates are in need of help and they go a very unexpected place. This was a good read however it was a bit slow and not very steamy. The story could have went faster and I think it would have been more enjoyable. I like that we got to meet alot of new characters in this book. We got to learn more backstory about the three guys in this book. Overall not a bad read and has a nice twist at the end.
Honestly a 3.5 stars. I hate Roman as a supposed alpha too much a wuss to man up. He doesn't care about anything but himself, heck he had sex with incubus he was supposed to kill. One of the worst written male characters ever. Sydney a submissive, another whining fmc. Just roll over and mate the dude who just slaughtered everyone and says he doesn't care about your other mates because you'll be his alone . She agrees. What a wasted space on my kindle
Let me just say that ending was a shock!!! Okay... now on to the actual review. I really enjoyed that in this book we continued to focus on Sydney and her insecurities and began to see her grow out of the persona that her ex had forced her into. I also like that we begin to delve into the secrets that the guys have been keeping and get a deeper understand of how their lives have shaped who they are. So far this series is amazing, I can't wait to see what the authors have in store for us next.
**Cliff hanger & Slow Burn** I really enjoyed this book we continue to focus on Syd and seeing her grow more confident in per persona outside of what was demanded of her from her ass-hat of an ex. Secrets are starting to unravel with the guys and we are starting to get a better understanding of their lives up current. I can't wait to see what next in what I hope to be HEA!
I couldn’t wait for this to come out and it didn’t disappoint! I love the story line the characters as well as the relationship the main female character makes not just with her mates but with everyone she becomes friends with I don’t wanna give out any Spoilers but that twist at the end are you kidding me ! Now I’m just dying for the next book
A quick, rollercoaster of a read. Lots of emotions, trauma, betrayal, promise and a cliff hanger of all cliff hangers. This book was amazing for world building and back story. There was great promise for peace and a new life that was quickly changed in the blink of an eye due to this cliff hanger. It left me reeling and begging for the next book!
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the story. Wish it was longer honestly. The ending really surprised me, it Definetly left on a cliff hanger. Although I expect when the 3rd book comes out the fmc character will turn around and say she rejects him as a mate. Can’t wait to read the next one when it comes out
OHHHH another cliff hanger...I thought book 2 was a little slow to start for me but it ended on a high even though I'm dying to know whats next. Really questioning the Goddess after this read too. Hopefully it all works out in the end.
This is another brilliant book with lots of twists and turns. New friends and old enemies. Sydney has to navigate pack life. Her relationship with her mate's. The cliff hanger. I am Desperate for the next book.
The audacity of ending right there! I need more of this story. Sydney is slowly coming into her own. I still have so many questions about Roman. I can’t believe the twists that came and that cliffhanger ending. I need more!
Holy wow that ending knocked me sideways. Such a huge cliffhanger ending!! The book as a whole was amazing it pulls you in fast and deep. That you feel everything that Sydney is going through. And with all the twists thrown in you will not be able to put this down. Definitely 100% recommend
The story line is there. The characters are there. But it is just disappointing. First book grateful start but slows down. This is getting to a point were I want to read bit just falls flat.
DNF @ 30% - I was irritated with Roman's behavior in the first book then to find out he left his pack behind essentially forcing his sister to take over...yeah, no. I was pretty much just irritated from that point on.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Well that was one heck of a twist and cliffhanger!!! This second book of the series didn't disappoint. Following sydney and her mates story has been brilliant and i can't wait for the next book!
