Rare Breed #2

The Bassist and the Best Friend

Rate this book
Christian Young often needs to escape.

He escapes into his friendships with his band, Rare Breed, he escapes into his own mind, and after he meets Leah Prince, he escapes into her.

Leah is living the student lifestyle and is enjoying every minute. Teaching a dorky bassist how to make coffee art shouldn’t lead to more but it does. He understands she’s not looking for anything serious, but does it stop him wanting more?

*Book can be read as a standalone but refers to characters and events from the first book*

M. B. Feeney is an army brat who finally settled down in Birmingham, UK with her other half, two kids and a dog. She often procrastinates by listening to music of all genres and trying to get ‘just one more paragraph’ written on whichever WIP is open; she is also a serious doodler and chocoholic. Writing has been her one true love ever since she could spell, and publishing is the final culmination of her hard work and ambition.

Her publishing career began with two novellas, and she currently has multiple projects under way, in the hopes that her portfolio of what have been described as “everyday love stories for everyday people” will continue to grow. Always having something on the go can often lead to block which eventually gets dissolved by good music and an even better book.

Her main reason for writing is to not only give her readers enjoyment, but also to create a story and characters that stay with readers long after the book is finished, and possibly make someone stop and think “what if . . . ”

Wow.

I absolutely LOVED the first book of this series and this one was just as amazing. Chris' story made me so emotional especially his home life as it resonated on a personal level. I'm so excited for what Mich does next with this series and overall!

Loved it!

Second in series and focused on Chris, this built on the first book and gave us a deeper look into Chris and Leah. They're both great characters who are a pleasure to read. The events tallied up well and it was great to get that added depth, whilst understanding what Chris goes through at home too (very sensitively done might I add). Another excellent addition to her portfolio and I'm eagerly awaiting the next in series!

I’m privileged to have read this book in advance of its release, and I’m so glad that I did. When I read the first book, I loved the relationships between the side and main characters, this advanced those relationships further and the story broke my heart. Chris is a sweetheart who deserves so much more than the hand he was dealt, and despite his rough home life, his heart is so open to love. He adores his friends and just wants to surround himself with the love and happiness he has craved. I’m already excited for book 3 and to see where their story takes them.

I loved this story just as much as the first one. I really love hearing the story from Chris' perspective and getting to know a little bit more about him and his life. His family life is less than perfect and it was heart breaking to read just how little his parents really cared about him. At least he has his best friends and surrogate parents to look after him. His friendship with Leah is great and I think she is perfect for him. I absolutely love these books and I really can't wait or the next instalment.

Book 2 in the series…. Here we are! As the author states each book can be read alone but I highly recommend reading them all in order.

I loved how in this book Leah is the one who just wants something casual but Christian decides he can’t live without her. It was a nice change of pace then the books I am currently reading.

This book was a breath of fresh air and I loved how much backstory we got.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I always love MB Feeneys writing. This was no different. I loved book 1 and book 2 was even better. I enjoyed seeing everything happen from Chris's point of view and what was truly going on with him. All I wanted to was go through the book and hug him and never let go. I was truly happy for him when he found someone to connect with ( if you read book one it won't be surprise). But see how it all started and where they end up was amazing :) Can't wait for Wes POV.

In book two of the Rare Breed series, we return to Feeney’s New Adult Rockstar Romance world. While the timeline in Bassist mirrors Busker (book one), the change in point of view allows the reader to get the know these lovely characters even better as Feeney reveals new facets of their lives and personalities through Christian Young’s eyes. And, yes, she manages to do this without the second book feeling repetitive… not an easy feat.
Chris is the bassist for Rare Breed, a fledgling band trying to navigate school, launching a career, and for most of the guys, unstable home lives. If not for the tight-knit relationships, akin to brotherhood, of his friends, Chris might give up on it all.
Just like the first installment, I found myself sucked in and rooting for these kids. A tear or two may have also been shed because Feeney isn’t afraid to put her toe in the darker waters of reality. Life doesn’t come on a shiny platter. There is heartache and heart break. Of course, those moments make the good times all the sweeter.
Don’t take my word for it, though. Grab a copy for yourself and disappear into a world of musician’s sore fingers, lyrics, miscommunications and revelations, and adorable coffee art.

I loved the timeline of this book as it coincides with the last book. I cried more due to the increased angst, I think. I still loved the book however, and can't wait for the next one. Well done Mich, you've done it again!!!

This was so worth the wait after Ash's story. They connect perfectly.
I love Chris and just wanted to give him a hug through half of the book.
Can't wait for the next one.

This is the 1st book I've read written by M.B. Feeney; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the 2nd book in the Rare Breed Series; is is a stand-alone book but would be better if read in order. The story was well written and I loved the characters. Leah & Chris were great together.

Amazing!!!!!

Another good novel by m b feeny. It’s funny and the story is awesome. I can see why some were disappointed there weren’t many sex scenes, but the story as a whole didn’t need them. The love story behind Leah and Chris as enough to keep me captivated.

As a friend of the author, I was lucky enough to be in the position to read this ahead of it's release.
Christian's life reflected my own in so many ways, so I felt his pain acutely as though I'd just lived it. Such a sensitive topic, has been perfectly tackled by Feeney.
I loved Ash's story, but Christian's is more personal to me because of how deeply he loves the family he chose. I can't wait to read book three now.

Sticking with the Rare Breed group this time the story focuses on band member Chris.
Not having an essy homelife has impacted Chris alot, he feels lost and lonely despite having his best friends in his corner.
So when a friendship strikes up with Leah who is helping catapult the band into new places he feels like his luck is starting to change.
I liked these guys together, it was so good to see Chris see himself for what hes worth.
Yet again would like to have seen some bits of teh story with more added to them and they feel toe like they finish quite sharply but it was a good read.
Onto book 3 next to read all about Wes!
