The first comparative analysis of contemporary artforms of two the Inuit people of the Canadian North and the Sami people of northern Scandinavia. Both function as single cultures across national boundaries, yet the Sami have long had regular contact with European civilization. In their contemporary artistic manifestations, both show connections with earlier times as well as clear indications of change.
Jean Blodgett (14 August 1945 - December 2020) was an American-born curator and prolific writer devoted to Inuit art who spent her career in Canada. She was known as a force in her field, the curator who began the serious art historical study of Inuit art in the early 1970s, at a time when few worked on the subject.
Blodgett was the Chief Curator at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection during the 1980s.
