I have a very controversal opinion about it. First: I really enjoyed the language, the expressions, the quirks, the descriptions - the writer sees the world somehow very clearly and is able to immerse you (in a very witty manner) into his perception entirely. I have made numerous marks, notes, small text and such on the book margins. The crisis (crisises? there are multiple) he lives through resonated with me, as well as lots of personal moments which feel extremely intimate: his friends and relatives, his artistic struggles, his reflections of the history and politics (he lived through the turbulent second half of 20th century). It is, essentially, his diary, so everything feels like it is carved out of him: he says the things we sometimes do not even tell our closest partners. This was sometimes even too much for me: I needed to take breaks and separate his thoughts and emotions from mine. Another thing I struggled with was the number of names he mentioned and the stories he told about them: I simple could not keep track. As these recollections are of his whole life, his acquaintances came and went, faces and their histories passed, and my brain did not process all of them, which kept irritating me to the moon and back. Overall, I think I would really recommend to people interested in this particular time in history, in autobiographes and such things.

The book that should be opened at right time in the right place

правильнее всего, наверное, будет назвать это мемуарами, только они здесь фрагментарные - логика их построения не «детство-отрочество-юность», а скорее прустовская - заплыв по памяти, хайлайты жизни
удивительно, насколько разделы о 70-х перекликаются с современностью - не по событийности, а по zeitgeist’у - скорее по экзистенциальным условиям, чем по внешним
а ещё трудно удержаться от соблазна спроецировать ту или иную фигуру (андерграундного поэта X того времени) или схему взаимоотношений на свою жизнь - наверное, свойство любых хорошо написанных мемуаров, в которых все люди живее и больше, чем буквы, из которых они вырастают

но это всё малозначительно - эта книжка на самом деле про то, что мы все состоим друг из друга, и про то, насколько одновременно прочным и хрупким это «друг друга» может быть
