Hi, I’m W. Salvage — a pen name I created when life took a sharp and unexpected turn.

I was in my early twenties, preparing to become a doctor, when I was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure. Since then, I’ve been living with CKD Stage 5 and surviving on dialysis. Writing became my anchor — a place where I could still dream, explore distant lands, and create magic even when my body felt broken.

I write short stories that blend folklore, fantasy, and fable — the kind of tales that carry quiet truths beneath talking animals, cursed swords, or invisible dragons. My collections — The Panther, Magic Drum, and Rachel & The Invisible Dragon — were born from a mix of struggle, imagination, and hope.

If you enjoy stories that make you think, smile, or see the world a little differently — I hope you’ll give them a read.

I write to survive — and maybe, to help someone else feel less alone.

The Panther and Nine Other Amazing Short Stories is a very interesting collection of fables that appear to be translated from their original text or written by an author whose second language is English. The author does well to bring this collection of moral-centered tales from a (or perhaps many) foreign tradition(s), offering the reader a chance to view the world through another lense. The text is larger and more readily accessible, which I appreciated as a differently abled person. Although I found some of the translations a bit difficult to read consistently (as the language seems somewhat broken), the lessons that I took from this work were very much worth the effort I invested into learning them.

Additionally, the author has a passionate life story that he openly shares with the readers. By purchasing a copy of this work, you are giving a person living on death's door a chance to see another sunrise. For that alone, this book is worth the purchase, and yet W. Savage's passion pours out of these pages. He clearly wishes to share something beautiful with the world, and I believe there is a lesson in these tales that we can all take away to make our planet a better place 💖.

Charming and unique stories

Most of these were charming and read like true old world myths--including the morals, lessons and cautions. One (The fox and The Wolf) was too stylistically weird; alternating between modern narrative and biblical, overblown, and often convoluted dialogue. For the most part I really enjoyed these and loved the fast moving story lines and clever writing and plotting.

The Panther and Nine Other Amazing Short Stories is unique and wonderful. Surely unlike anything else. These fables seemly come from a much earlier time and a variety of places. Hard to imagine they were written in this modoern era. Words fail me to actually describe this work except to say these are short fables that grab the reader's attention. If you're looking for something fun and unique, don't miss this.

Just finished reading "The Panther and Nine Other Amazing Short Stories" by W. Salvage
My two favorite parables are the "Tongue Cut Sparrow" and " The Fox and The Wolf". The overall theme is that by doing good that you are rewarded. If however, you are greedy, cruel and hateful, you will not prosper. That the Creator of all creatures has given us ways to act and care for one another and we are all bound by these laws. This book is now one of my favorite books.

Wonderful folk tales

From around the world, this author has given us the folk tales that may have been passed down for generations. The mix of short stories is unique, originate from many lands and are told as one would hear from a storyteller. Valuable lessons are taught in each tale.

Short stories

It is infrequent that I find a book of short stories in which each one is written beautifully with intelligence and with but this equals and sometimes surpassed the tables of Aesop and the tales of Arabian Nights. A truly wonderful collection that I feel privileged to have read.

The Panther and Nine Other Amazing Short Stories reminds me of Aesop's fables. The author has some health issues and the sales of his books go towards maintaining his treatment, which in itself is good enough reason to purchase and read. But if you like Hans Christian Andersen, Aesops fables, and The Brothers Grimm, this book is right up your street.

THE SALVADOR DALI OF WRITERS

I often felt spellbound by W Salvage's short stories,
his artistry and depiction of the exotic far East,
mystical creatures, Doctor Dog, and trees with
queer twisted branches growing in the shapes of
tigers having elements of the surreal, which reminded
me of the artist Salvador Dali.

Because stories such as The Tongue-Cut Sparrow
were full of intrigue I couldn't wait to find out how
they would end, each and every one of them. The Man
Who Never Laughed wonders what lies behind the door
he has been forbidden to open by his beautiful wife,
a wealthy queen in her land whom he married shortly
after entering a world unlike anything he had seen
before. Does his curiosity get the better of him?
What lies behind the door?

These were beautifully written, delightful stories
which many children and adults would enjoy, I
imagine. Perfect as birthday or Christmas presents
for children or adults who enjoy reading short
stories of an unusual and fascinating nature.

I recommend this book 100%
