Katherine Adams dreams of getting far away from her over-protective mother and the quiet, subdued life on Ruby’s Ranch. She’s drawn to the excitement of the city, the idea of her paintings hanging in glamourous art galleries, wearing the finest fashions and eating in quaint sidewalk cafes. Every detail of her escape is lined out until a handsome horse whisperer gallops into her world.
John Lattrell is a master at taming wild animals but he’s never seen a creature as stubborn and free-spirited as the beautiful, young Katherine. From the first moment, she drew him into her inquisitive soul, leaving it bare for all the pain that was destined to come. Will ghosts from his past ruin his chances at capturing her heart?
Katherine is torn between her dreams and her desires. John is tormented by the thought of losing her. What will become of their love when family secrets and betrayal come between them?

The last time we were at Ruby’s Ranch, was the first book in this series, and it was the story of Ruby Marie, inheriting the ranch from her grandmother Rube. But her mother had disappeared, and it had been years. This time the author takes us back in time to Ruby Marie’s mother, Katherine and her life at Ruby’s Ranch. We get a good look at how Rube ran the ranch with an iron fist, and even though most of the time I didn’t like her much, because in my opinion, she pushed her daughter away – even though she loves her more than life itself, she had a horrible way of showing it. You do eventually come to terms with Rube, and so does Katherine. The mystery surrounding Katherine’s life and her disappearance is answered and it’s quite a ride. From her life on the ranch, the mysterious shaman and the circle with all the warnings, the bad dust storm that threatens the ranch, to the love that Katherine shared with John, the author does a brilliant job of wrapping up most of the questions in quite an entertaining way. When you get to the end, things will fall into place and I’m glad I read this book after I read the first one now. Even though this could be read as a standalone, to get the full effect of these two books and the intricate storylines, I’d recommend starting with Return to Ruby’s Ranch. Reviewed by Cyrene
Another wonderful, suspenseful book in this series. I love reading books that keep you interested and turning the pages, this one will definitely keep you are your toes. When all the secrets and lies come to the surface will these two be able to make it through or will it tear them apart? You will have to read this one to find out. I truly enjoyed this one and I hope the author writes more. I highly recommend this one if you love romances filled with suspense and hope.
I was anxiously awaiting this release because I really wanted to know what happened to Katherine and was surprised when i found out. I love the way the author brought the story together. It was really hard to put the book down. I cant wait for the 3rd book in the series! I highly recommend reading anything from this author because her books take so many twists keeping you wondering what will happen next.
Ruby Latterly inherited a ranch from her grandmother. This book revolves around various residents and workers on the ranch through the years and the influence the ranch had on each of them. I found this book to be interesting and finished it fairly quickly. Read this book to learn Ruby's story.
Loved this second book! The whole story of what took Katherine from her family and ranch is indeed a horrific act. Frankhouser weaves an intricate tapestry that captures the reader’s attention well into the night. I hope the legacy will clarify everything including Auggie.
Loved the story...It took me back to my childhood, remembering places that truly exist such as the Ranch...she was very descriptive with the landscapes and made me feel as though I was home and the characters were people that I truly knew! I enjoyed both Escape from Ruby's Ranch and Return to Ruby's Ranch. Can't wait for the series to continue!
It is hard to review this book without giving it away. There is so much story, I only gave it three stars although I did finish the book but left me with an unsettling feeling. The author has a wonderful imagination and it is well written but it was almost to much, felt like he was searching for an ending.
The 3 books were backwards in which you read the last book first and so on. This book tells Katherine and John’s story. The love story was really good. I was glad to find out what really happened to Katherine in the past twenty years. Very good book.
Captivating story and a real page turner! I thought I knew the story from Ruby’s Ranch but was I wrong! You can start with this story or start at the beginning. You won’t be disappointed!
