I found this book to be quite interesting. I am not sure that everything the author writes about applies to my situation, but I found several items that resonated with me. Since I hit puberty, I have been fighting the weight battle. I have successfully lost weight only to have it go back on—in a cycle that is frustrating. I know I use food as a crutch when I am having personal issues but, after reading this book, I now have strategies to help me overcome that problem.

It took courage for the author to write the book and detail the story of her weight loss; I'm not sure I could have been so diligent and honest.

I will be taking her advice and changing my relationship with food and hope to lose that last 20 pounds that will put me at my goal weight.

The book "You can't eat love" by Leslie Lindsey Davis is refreshing in many ways:

Firstly, the book title and cover design are eye-catching.

Secondly, the Chapters are neatly structured into easy to read sections. The reader can easily flip up & down and use it as a reference book.

The author opens up the book with a memory about her mother's pie recipe. And that story right there defines the core of what the rest of the book is all above, "Love is in the memories. The echoes of laughter and family moments. Love is in the doing. Love is not in the eating”, she says. The reader then gets to understand that this is not yet another book about dieting. It is about one’s love with oneself - food just happens to be part of the equation.

The book tackles the tricky question that is usually posed when someone mentions that they are going on a diet. Oftentimes, when one says that she is dieting, the question that tends to be asked is: "WHY"?. The author then delves into why her approach this time is different & why the reader is encouraged not to use that word "why" again. Leslie then walks the reader through why she needs to have a different relationship with food. This is about being true to oneself & to keep the “why” closer to the chest.

In other book's sections, the author peels back the onion & gets to the core of what this "love" is all about. She provides plans about food choices, portion sizes & calories. The reader does not have to go on this journey by herself. Leslie lays out support resources which include workbooks, journals, apps and a tracker. There are links that the reader can click on that lead to these downloadable resources. The author also provides a relatable reading list that includes the Biblical Book of Proverbs, the Miracle Morning & others.

This reviewer also recommends that the reader flips to the back of the book and reads about the author as that section creates a stronger bond with the material in the earlier pages.

It is a great book that I highly enjoyed reading. I would highly recommend it.

This was an easy to get through, helpful book that's main focus is YOU and your journey. The main premise is being in a car, on your journey to whatever your destination is, and what you need to pack to get there. The premise is different from other books I've read on weight loss and dieting. It focuses on you and your thoughts, how to see the positive changes and not focus on the negative. Had a bad day and ate a cookie or two? Look at why you did that, what were you feeling, what were you doing? Now, the next time you feel that way you know to have a plan as to how to handle it. And take a look at good decisions you made that day. Did you meet your exercise goal, did you turn down a doughnut at breakfast? Focus on the positive/good decisions you're making, not when you "mess up." I've made changes based on what Leslie says in the book. The Facebook group for the book is also a great resource. There are other people on the same journey, so you can go and ask for encouragement, vent when you did something "wrong," get support, share ideas...and Leslie is great at responding to posts and comments. You will feel seen and encouraged.

All in all, a definite recommended read for anyone who wants to start a weight loss journey, understand the WHY of your eating, feel better, or get a jump start on your car to get to your destination.

Love this book! Healing my relationship with food has changed my life!

This book beautifully describes an issue that we don't discuss enough, with practical tools and strategies written in a conversational way. You will laugh, reflect, cry and ultimately get to the real root of your weight issue which is a love issue. You Can't Eat Love affirms us emotional eaters in a journey of self discovery and provides a safe place to begin the healing and reshaping process. I love the illustration throughout the book of the suitcase and constantly being aware of the baggage we are carrying around. The author approaches the reasons and excuses that we give ourselves head-on in a refreshing and insightful 'I've been there, done that let me show you the way out' manner. I loved this book and HIGHLY RECOMMEND to my fellow over indulgers looking for a way out... here's our life jacket and oxygen mask.

This book is for you if you are on a diet merry-go-round. It is a fantastic book to help you understand and guide you towards learning to face your mountain of feelings and behaviours connected to the foods you reach out for AND how to deal with these and move forward in your life positively.

Also, I learned how to change how I felt about food and what I could do to learn to love myself by understanding my triggers, which gave me tremendous insight into my eating patterns.

This is an incredible book. Once you start reading it, you can't put it down. I particularly enjoyed the life hacks with powerful tips and tricks to help you, there is so much brilliant information to help you understand yourself and I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars.

Talk about a "real action plan" for weight loss! This is your book if you want a practical and real life journey to accomplish your weight loss goals. Not only is this a great read, but it's a great workbook and tool for getting your weight goals in order.

Having had my own weight loss journeys, I found myself agreeing with nearly everything that Leslie put into her work. I haven't read many weight loss books in my time, but this is one that I'll be sharing and referring others towards.

There are so many practical truths in this book that more people need to discover!

Fantastic book to change your lifestyle.

My favorite quote in the book, by the author “I can only do me. Everyone else has to do them.” This book has so many practical solutions and advice with plenty of motivation to back it up. I love the perspective that you just can’t change the things, you have to be the person. Great read to get yourself on the road to real change.

Very cheesy and not as informative as I hoped. Although a good starting point for a healthier version or oneself.

Amazing Fun Read!

I love to eat and I hate to diet. I learned from reading this that eating is just my alternate reality lol. In the challenge to change myself, a quote from the book that inspired me, I am working to be a better me by being truthful with myself especially when it comes to my bad eating habits. This is a great book that is very motivational and will have you smiling and laughing at what you’ve done in the the past, but looking forward to a successful weight journey. Oh and I don’t like my bacon wiggly, I like mine crispy lol.

Practical approach in weight loss

This book focuses on self-love to advocate weight loss in a very practical and logical way. When your goal is to lose weight you need to ask yourself why you wish to lose weight? The way she could lose 100 pounds is interesting as she emotionally stood against temptation, created new habits and took control of her own life. I also love the workbook associated with the book!
