Québécois Separatist leader.

Vallieres was active as a journalist and writer and was considered to be the intellecual leader of the Quebec Liberation Front.

Vallieres started his activism with a hunger strike at the United Nations headquarters in New York City to protest Quebec's plight.

In 1971 he denounced violence. In 1972 was jailed for three charges of counselling kidnapping for political purposes.

Perhaps even more than he did in Negres blanc…, Vallieres manages to explain the relationship between the Quebecois’ struggle for independence and Marxist theory in an eminently readable way. His thinking is clear, cogent, and convincing.
