Fighting ghosts, witches, and curses is nothing new for Max and Sandra Porter. But when a Civil War ghost gets tethered to their teenage son, J, everything is new. And terrifying.
With the help of their partner and ghost, Marshall Drummond, the team will be up against serious and deadly problems -- dealing with the head witch of North Carolina, raising ancient bones from the bottom of lake, breaking forgotten curses, and far more.
But worse than that, they will have to face the most difficult challenge of all -- J starts dating.
Stuart Jaffe is the madman behind the Nathan K thrillers, Max Porter paranormal-mystery series, The Malja Chronicles, The Bluesman series, and much more. He has written numerous short stories in Fantasy, SF, and Horror. He was also the co-host of The Eclectic Review (http://eclectic.libsyn.com) -- a podcast about science, art, and well, everything.
Stuart lives in rural North Carolina, and for those who keep count, the latest animal listing is as follows: one dog, two cats, one albino corn snake, three aquatic turtles, assorted fish, seven chickens, and a horse. Thankfully, the chickens and the horse do not live inside the house.
We’re at the fourteenth book (14!), and poor Max, Sandra, and Drummond are still not in a good place. Max gets some devastating news, and while in the midst of dealing with that, he finds out that J is tethered to a spirit. Like all of Max’s cases, this is not a simple as it appears. This latest addition to the series is a well-written book filled with the characters you already know and love. I feel for them because they never can seem to catch a break. This one felt almost like a coming-of-age story, too, with Max realizing his “babies” aren’t babies anymore. If you like paranormals with a slight noir feeling, you will love this series. You don’t need to have read the other to read this, but you will miss some of the subtleties. Recommend.
Max has his hands full. His mother is sick. J is starting to date. J can see ghosts and he is tethered to one. How did this happen? Max, Sandra, and Drummond work together to find out who this ghost is. Sandra doesn't have enough power to get J out of this situation. They will need help. That means they will have to deal with the most powerful witch in North Carolina. Max gets into trouble with this, he could lose his life. Come along and find out if Max gets out of this. As always the plot is well constructed and the story is well written. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
The gang is back again and as usual the book keeps you on tenterhooks from start to end. Never a dull moment with the Porter agency. One of them is always in dire trouble and everyone has to scramble. This time it's J's turn and add teenagehood and illness to the mix and that's a big ol' cauldron of trouble. Let's never forget the magic and ghosts, always the magic, my favourite thing about the Max Porter series. I love how we grow with this family with every book and yet never get tired of reading about their adventures. If you love the supernatural and plot twists you never see coming, then pick up this book and be amazed. Stuart Jaffe has never disappointed me.
