Many youngsters are fascinated by construction sites and all that goes on there. In this durable board book they have the chance to get a close-up look at how buildings are torn down to make room for others. They can make note of the building's framing, bricklaying, roofing, and insulation, and even some of the heavy equipment used to produce a sturdy new structure, in this case, a school. While not all old buildings should be destroyed in order to build new ones, sometimes that is necessary. Young readers will enjoy being able to peek through the different-sized holes in the book's pages in order to get a glimpse of all the activity. While I don't love the illustrations, they get the job done, and it's the book's design that will attract youngsters.
