The Walking Y, once one of the finest ranches in Montana, is now on the edge of collapse all because of that damn horse. A lawsuit won by his neighbor, Senator William Bell, has Woody’s family ranch on the brink of bankruptcy when fate brings a young and ornery runaway to his door. Now, with the help of a drunken Irishman, a handful of orphaned teenagers, and a wild scheme, they are ready to fight to keep the ranch. They’re not the only ones willing to fight for it though. Senator Bell has his own plans for the Walking Y, and he and his hired gun are willing to do anything to take it. Even if that means murder… This action packed adventure rings of a true old fashion Western novel! Experiences ring true with this fantastic narrative from a true cowboy author. Readers who have loved the works of Wyatt Shepard, Frank Wheeler, Louis L’Amour, and C. Wayne Winkle won’t want to miss The Walking Y. Read it today!
The Walking Y is a great first novel for Jeter Isely. For one that enjoys anything to do with horses, having a horse start an unfortunate line of events for the ranch years ago that Woodrow Flynt is trying to not let cause foreclosure on the ranch is a great start to the book. I loved the practicality and ornery characters of the Walking Y crew throughout the book and the scheme they develop trying to stave off the ranch getting purchased by a crooked neighbor. It is a fast paced book, with some new vocab words that I really enjoyed learning and historical accuracy which added depth to the story. Would definitely recommend!
Fast paced adventure that pulls on real historical dialogue and knowledge of actual western living. It's a relief to find a western book that is not based on a movie and some whimsical dream of what it must have been like. Jeter Isely captures a true heart of Montana in 1904. Highly recommend!
I loved the cover; it caught my eye! Being a reader of westerns, this storyline covers the good in people, the bad in politicians and the difficult weather. I felt myself freezing with the chill of snow, travels over ice areas and adding tons of wood to the stove to cook and keep warm. Woody wanted to keep the ranch his father's legacy gave him, but he was in debt from a lawsuit. His neighbor, a Senator, was eager to buy but not at a good price. This is the story of everything going bad, including his ranch hands that were on the payroll of his enemy next ranch over. The Senator wanted to steal the land so when he ran for Governor, he would be the largest rancher in Idaho. Cattle were missing, a lengthy lawsuit kept him broke, and because of that, he could not get help from the local bank. There are interesting people in this book which included orphan children that became the ranch hands; the friendship of the Doc's wife; and his one stubborn ranch hand named Tony. Thanks for an interesting read.
1904 The Walking Y by Jeter Isely Enjoyed this westerns and it starts out with Woody who's trying to save the family ranch. The Senator next door is trying to buy it all up and run for governor. He acquires some orphans who enjoy the work on the ranch and being able to help Woody. Twists and turns and some kids get captured and tortured in a sense, others have gotten shot. Love how it all ends and learned so many things about the wilderness that I hope to never have to use. Story continues in the next book of the series.
First off, I have never read= listened to this author before. This is a most realistic story because the abuse of power, particularly via lawyers, senators, and such, twisting the law to suit their wishes. Also, the various narcissistic characters for whom nothing can be their fault and is Always the fault of others is so well displayed in this Story. Narrator does a Great job with the various characters' voices and the entire storyline. I highly recommend this book.
