Otie Bryant was only trying to get gas, but after what should have been a simple traffic stop, he was dead on the street. His hometown erupts in protest, and fierce resistance from police only adds fuel to the fire. As his mother and brother try to adjust to life without him, though, the town of Wilkerson comes to realize that the bad apples of law enforcement are only part of the problem, and that the true threat has gone unchecked for far too long. Hellfire is a brutal study of some of the worst aspects of American society, but it's also a testament to the endurance of the Black spirit. It is a reminder that what isn't lost in the fire is left to fight it, and that whatever hatred doesn't devour will ultimately come to defeat it. Hellfire is the fear that leads to hope, the devastation that leads to resolve, and the overwhelming hate that leads to triumphant love.
