I learned a lot from this book. It's a perfect choice for beginners and it worked well for me in the field. It's small (yet thorough for a pocket guide) and it features a set of very useful pictures of bird silhouettes. I'd rather see some more detailed distribution maps or information on estimated population size, but still, this book is great. Look for updated edition.
