Parents, friends, teachers, relatives, and even work colleagues – from the people close to us to those we never even meet – other people are constantly shaping who we are.The mirror neuron is a part of the brain that has shaped each and every one of us throughout our lifetimes. It is the very essence of what makes us human, but most of us have never even heard of it.Mirror Thinking explores how the mirror neuron has defined us through the role models we observe and interact with. All of the learning we take from our world is down to our brain's mirror system, but it doesn't stop there. This incredible system is also responsible for our emotional connections with others, how we pass on learning between the generations through stories, and how we imagine and innovate within our own minds. In Mirror Thinking , psychologist and award-winning author Fiona Murden looks at the mirrors that have shaped our parents, friends, teachers, relatives, and even work colleagues. From the people close to us to those we never even meet – other people are constantly shaping who we are. By having a better understanding of this system we are able to take conscious control of it, encouraging us to have a more positive impact on the world around us and on society as a whole.

What a brilliant and socially valuable read.

This book pulls off the rare feat of presenting complex theories and making them feel relatable and easy to understand.

Navigating through some really important topics such as echo chambers and the harm of unbalanced content consumed online. Mirror Thinking makes topics and behaviours that are so nuanced and hard to recognise in ourselves easy to acknowledge and identify.

Told in a way that’s easy to digest using real and relatable stories to demonstrate real world examples and application. Backed by just the right amount of substantiated research without it feeling overly academic.

The fact i read this in only 3 sittings and was super engaged throughout says a lot.

Not only did it teach me a lot but it gave me ample fodder to open up really valuable (and necessary) conversations with both of my children.

The power of who you surround yourself with and the thoughts that you think will guide you in the direction you will go in life. So how can you chance this path? A lot of this book was obvious but a lot of it was insightful as well. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put it down once I’d started reading it and after I finished I kept dipping back into it. It really made me think about what sort of role model I’m being to others. It has also made me realise why I behave in the way I do as I think back to the role models I had in my childhood. Although the book contains scientific matter the author writes about it in such a way that makes it accessible for all. It includes lots of fascinating facts and real life stories from Fiona’s life as well as a number of tales from the lives of more well known people which make it easy to relate to. I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for an interesting, thought provoking read.
