Book: Flirting with life Author: Rohit Raj Publisher: Bluerose Publishers Pvt. Ltd. Genre: Prose and Poetry Format: Paperback Pages: 160 Rating: 5/5
This book is a collection of poems and short stories. The poems are grouped under various themes like Social norms and stigmas, sarcasm, motivation, psychology , love and heartbreak, family and friends. Then, there is a bunch of various short stories running into two to three pages. I loved all the poems and short stories , but if you ask me to name few , they are ‘ The Social Judgement’,’the 90s Ishq’,’The Faded Rose’, ’Godfather’, ’Men don’t cry’, ’Breakups in 2020’,’The Pillar of Pride’, ’An ode to Martyr’ ‘A Bear with Dad’, ‘ Sisters Twisters’. Among Stories ‘That Yellow Parrot’, ‘The Clown’, ‘The Foul smell of success’ The language is really mature . Writing style is such that touches the heart and soul. Glossary is densely enriched. I had to Google the terms again and again, thus got to learn new words. One can feel the pensiveness and depth in author’s work whether it is poetry or short stories. Characters are beautifully sketched. The plot is intriguing. There is a suspense element in all short stories. Making the reader curious and giving the unexpected at the end is not an easy task but author has done it quite well. All the stories either end with a happy note, or have a moral lesson at the end.
‘The Parrot kept loosing its features as the lady continued to lose her soul’ ‘True, Love transcends all the physical deformities and can blossom without lust.’ ‘Life is uncertain; sometimes someone’s cranky words can even save someone’s life. ‘
The poems are not only on various themes but also mirror the stark reality which is so beautifully penned down that they touch the heart and soul. I feel like reading more poems, short stories and novels authored by this author.
The cover page is really beautiful and attractive. Title is really alluring. Special appreciations for cover page and title. The paperback quality is reasonable. The font style ,size and spacing make the read more interesting. Even the beautiful pictures with most of the poems and prose are also very enticing.
If you love enticing poetry and very pensive small stories, this book is perfect for you!
I look forward to read more from the author. I feel proud that our Indian authors are writing such deep and pensive poems and stories.
The poetry section of this book is divided into six different parts. Every part has one central theme that is explored using various sets of poem. First part which deals with love, life & heartbreaks revolves around various kinds of love- Long distance, 90's, One Sided, Second chance at love and the one that sets you free, these poems were really sentimental, high on emotions and providing clarity towards the most special feeling we call 𝖑𝖔𝖛𝖊. The second part deals with social norms and stigma which is one of my favorite section of this book including two of my favorite poems by the author namely "Ishwar-Allah" and "The SocialJudgement". Remaining parts dealt with topics like- family, friends, motivation, sarcasm etc. One poem named "Healing" caught my attention as it spoke of the unspoken and yet very important aspect of life i.e to embrace your true self and acknowledging the imperfections. With each poem, I feel the writing style getting more n more mature by the time I reached metaphysical section it felt like reading the work of a well-known poet. The prose section is equally gripping with many short and fast paced stories. They dealt with stigmas attached to transgenders, people having multiple personality disorders etc. The way one story presented motherly love in its purest form is praiseworthy. And the last chapter of the book is name, "The Last Drink".
"No more ambitions, no more desires, She remains a being with sacrifice's attires."
After a long time, I got a chance to read a short book with a lot of interesting themes and a touch of reality, Flirting with Life by Rohit Raj, is a collection of fifty of the best poems and ten short stories of contemporary times. First, I would love to talk about the poems I loved, which are 'My soul gets raped', 'The social judgement', and 'The dark cloud'. They are all raising voices against injustice in society and how human life is affected by them. I also loved the short story, 'The Seven Vows' the most.
What makes this collection unique is the way in which the author writes and expresses himself. He finds it to be his responsibility to spread awareness by his writings among the people about issues like rape, marriages, stereotyping, judgements, love, hate and much more. He has also dedicated a poem to the Nirbhaya rape case, the black lives matter slogan and to Shushant Singh Rajput, which I think is soo amazing.
Poetry or words in verse have a greater impact on the mind because they are easy to read, remember and create a rhythm, such is the case with the poems in this book. The short stories have an open ending and a lot of gaps which one needs to fill up with his own understanding. Language is lucid, easy to understand and written in English and Hindi both. There are coloured pictures also which makes reading far more interesting. So, overall its a little book of joy for me, which I think is worth reading and enjoying.
Flirting with life by Rohit Raj is a collection of fifty poems and ten short stories. The specialty of the poems in this collection is the rhyming scheme. The author has done an amazing job with it. When reading rhyming scheme poems is rare, this is a collection with amazing rhyme poetry. The stories in this collection were something which we can say is the cherry on the cake.
The poems are divided into six parts.
The first part was "Love, life and heartbreaks" which consists of thirteen poems. The poems will make you roam through the time of the ’90s to the current scenario. While some poems connect deeply and touch the heart, some were admirable.
The second part was “Social norms and stigmas” consists of eight poems. The poems are highly inspired by the current situations, events, and happenings from our surroundings, they are impactful and will make you think about society and humanity.
The third part was “Sarcastic” which consists of seven poems. This part has a mixed feeling for me. While some of the poems were stunning, some didn’t work for me.
The fourth part was “Motivational” having ten poems in it. This was the part which I enjoyed a lot. This part has something to offer each one of us. There were many lines with which I connected very easily and I am sure that they will resonate with you too. Some lines will hit you hard. This part has literally the power to motivate you.
The fifth part was “Psychological flicks (metaphysical)” with seven poems. The topics covered in this part were commendable and unique and should be appreciated but this was the only part where I feel like that rhyming scheme could be avoided. While the rhyming scheme is my most favorite thing in this collection, this was the part where I feel like if it was not there, the author could connect with the readers more easily. Some lines completely resonated with me and I loved them, but some lines do not work for me.
The sixth part and my most favorite part was “Family and friends” which has five poems. This was the most beautiful part of this book. Every poem of this part has the ability to touch the reader’s heart. Every word of this part can make you feel what the author wanted to tell. This was the part where it seems like the rhyming scheme came naturally in the poems. The only thing about this part is that it was the shortest part of the book and I loved this part so much that I wanted more of this part. The final part of this book was Prose or Short stories. There were ten short stories and as I said above, it was the cherry on the cake part. The writing style of the author was phenomenal and the stories were astonishing. Obviously, as I loved these stories, I want more of them. And so, if the author will write a short stories collection in future, I will not miss it. The stories were taken up from our surroundings itself and so it connects easily.
There was only none thing that I found odd in this collection was a poem named “Ab tum mat aana”. It was my favorite poem from this collection. It was so beautiful and so warm; every word of this poem seems like coming out of the paper in front of my eyes. But the odd thing about this was that it was in Hinglish, which means the poem was in Hindi but written with English letters. The thing is that for the readers who do not understand Hindi, this poem is meaningless. So, it would be better if a rough translation of this poem in English could have been given along with the original one.
I will recommend this book to the ones who are looking to read poems with the rhyming scheme and want bonuses as short stories. This is very beginner-friendly and if you are a beginner, you should definitely check it out.

FAB - BOOK REVIEW OF "Flirting with life" by Rohit Raj.
Genre: Modern Poetry and short stories
Rating - 3.5/5
QOTD: Coffee lover or a tea lover?
"Flirting with life" by Rohit Raj. This book is a compilation of poetry about various issues of society with also short stories in it. First of all, the title did catch my eye. I haven't read the author's work before, but it is undoubtedly good. He has a good writing style, and the portrayal of emotions is also excellent. This book is divided into the following 6 parts: Part 1: Love, Life, and Heartbreaks Part 2: Social Norms And Stigmas Part 3: Sarcasm Part 4 motivational Part 5: Psychological Flicks(metaphysical) Part 6: Family and Friends The author has talked about the respective issues in these 6 parts. I really liked how the author has mentioned social stigmas and written poetry about them so that we think about those stigmas to eradicate them. A few poems are so beautifully written in the book, which is heart-wrenching and beautiful also; the shorts stories also convey a good message to the readers. Some of my favorites: Ishwar - Allah GOD FATHER The social judgment Men don't cry Breakups in the 2020s The pillar of pride An ode to a martyr Words for mediocrity A letter to younger self Healing Come to me A beer with dad That Yellow Parrot The Girl On the Bridge 1 & 2 I can mention just a few poems r short stories out of these and say that these are my favorites, but I don't like to do that because they are astounding to read as they convey a great message to the life we are leading. The language which is used in the book is lucid, and it is suitable for beginners. But I feel that the writing should get a bit better, which will help to convey the message better for the readers, and there is a need for editing in this book as they are a misprint in the book and not just that I felt a bit of lag in the short stories which can be removed by editing it. Overall this book is not for everyone. This is just for the beginners, and I did pretty enjoyed the book but not much.

➡INSIGHT- Flirting with Life is a collection of 50 poems and some short stories. The poems range from the metaphysical to motivational, themes that cover raw human emotions to social issues pertinent to today's times. There is literally something for everyone within the pages.
➡REVIEW- The poems in the book are written with a sense of maturity, almost like the author realises his responsibility towards his readers, encouraging, inspiring, motivating and questioning them through verse. The writing style is impactful with several poems referring to popular cultural movements, recent incidents and mirroring the dilemmas we are all facing currently. The stories at the end come as a surprise, and they truly are a pleasant one, almost like they are the author's way of appreciating the reader for reading his poems. The stories are written with a certain simplicity unlike the poems and the versatility of the author shines through.
➡STRENGTHS – The book has a lot of great content. In a collection where there are so many poems chances are there will be a lot you may not like, not with this book though. Almost every poem hits home in its own way. The stories are a welcome change and add to the charisma of this book. The language is tight, well structured and flows easily in both the poems and the stories.
➡WEAKNESS- A few more stories could have been added and the existing ones deserved more time and attention so readers could connect with them as easily as they can with the poems
Divided into seven parts Flirting with life written by Rohit Raj covers 50 outstanding poems and 10 remarkable short stories. The book encloses diverse topics varying from Love to heartbreaks, social norms to social stigmas, family to friends and sarcasm to motivation. The poems are so nicely composed that you will find yourself reading one after another without a break. And not only this, these poems are relatable too. The author through his poems talks about those subjects which do come to our mind but we don't give them enough importance. There is not a single poem that I didn't like but at the same time, what put me off was the poem "Ab tum mat aana", where all the poems are written in English this one is in Hinglish which broke my flow and somewhere lessened the charisma of this book.
Other than the poems, the ten short stories are delight for the readers. It was as if the author is giving his readers a treat for reading his poems. But somewhere I feel that more significance can be given to these stories.
One of my favourite poems from the collection was The Social Judgement in which the author has explained how society judges someone even without knowing what they are actually going through and I so can associate with this particular poem, being myself judged n number of times by others for no specific reason.
Overall, this book was no less than a delight for me and I recommend this book to all poetry lovers.
"Always believe in the magic of this universe and never withhold yourself from chasing your dreams."

I found the poem 'the grown childhood' to be most relatable.
The short stories are absolute package! I loved reading those because even despite being so short they had some twists and turns or an eye-opener. Amongst all 9 stories, its difficult to pick one favorite but I'll choose one 'the girl on the bridge' as my favorite.
I found the language of the book to be moderate-level. Book also has illustrations so that makes it fun and visual. This book seems to be written for every human who wishes to express or opine on issues but may not always find the words. I think anyone will be able to read easily because it's not a full-length book and can be read in breaks.
