Marta is on the verge of a new life. Hard earned success waits just around the next corner. But only if she’s brave enough to keep walking toward it. Winning the Milton Cesar Foundation for the Arts Award will launch her career. With the spotlight turned her way, she’ll have to face a messy past and dream of a brighter future.

Carol is burdened with the desire to fix what’s broken. To make room for more people in the elite foundation she currently runs. But change is hard and the people around her don’t share her vision. Selecting Marta as the award recipient was a bold step. Getting everyone on board seems an insurmountable task.

The two must come to terms with their collective fears. If they plan to change anything, they must face everything. Danger included. With Robert and Terrance by their sides, there is room for hope. For possibility. Maybe even for love.

Writing is a way to make a lot of different people do exactly what you want them to do. When I can’t get my toddler to listen to me, I turn to my characters. They always cooperate!

I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina with my husband and seven year old son. I have perfected the ability to write in a noisy house and create story lines while folding laundry.

Ten Things to know about me:

1. I have a fear of whales. All whales. The noise they make. The sight of them (even on tv). I don't think this phobia has a name and I've never met anyone else who feels this way. I blame it on the 3D movie when I was 7 at the Boston Museum of Science. (Thanks Dad.)

2. When I get hungry it brings out the worst in me. My friends and family know to keep me well fed. They pack snacks now.

3. I can cook but not bake. Not even a little. Not even a box of brownies.

4. If there is a song I like it is normal to hear me listening to it a hundred times (give or take) in a row.

5. I do not, under any circumstances, read directions. Who has time for that? Making mac & cheese by the seat of my pants for the last 25 years.

6. Like a black-out drunk, I have lost hours of my life mysteriously to Pinterest. If you haven't tried it yet... don't. Save your self.

7. Before I became a mother, lots of things grossed me out. Now nothing does.

8. My favorite food is food... my least favorite food is no food. I love food. (apply the same rule to wine)

9. I do not have a green thumb. I have the kind of thumb that kills any type of plant ever given to me. Whatever kind of thumb that is... I have it.

10. Writing has changed my life. Not just the career it's created but the way I feel when I write. If you have something you love to do I hope you get the opportunity to do it.

Marta is still undecided whether to sign the contract for the award for her book. She still is afraid of confronting her messy past, although this contract could change her life for the better. Carol needs Marta to sign the contract to solidify her position and make needed changes to the foundation. Both women need to confront their pasts to move forward and begin the possibility of new romance. Navigating these paths for each of them could become very difficult but worthwhile. Second in the series, this book will have you impatiently for the next book!

Following the story of two women who overcame past trauma by facing the winds of conflict. One of them fleeing learned dependence by depending on yet another “savior” learned to stand on her own. The other learned to break through illusion to face he truth and take a stand against values contrary to her own. The ultimate outcome is yet undecided which might be divulged in a third volume. Yet, even if not, this story stands alone as a great read.

Terribly disappointing. Read the first one, "Anywhere the weeds grow" and it was actually pretty good. This second book is the immediate sequel, but simply takes off where the other one ended, no separate story line at all. Characters are overly dramatic and the story just has nowhere to go. The icing on the cake was the terrible ending. Did the author just give up on this dead in the water book? Unfortunately after this experience, will not be reading her again.

This was a different read. This was about two women, one from the wrong side of the tracks and the other from a well to do family. Their paths across and in doing so, their life is experiences are examined. Very different but the same in some aspects.

Characters

The back and forth of characters was distracting. I've read better, but this was ok as long as you stayed sharp on the changing of characters.

*I listened to this book via the scribd app

This is a continuation of Anywhere the Weeds Grow, but doesn't leave you hanging as much. Although it's still incredibly disappointing to reach the end and not know what happens.

I don't know that I'll read the third book when it comes out.
