This was the standard academic biography for Septimius Severus over a hundred years ago. Read it if you must, but it pales in comparison to Anthony Birley's magisterial Septimius Severus: African Emperor, a far better work. I have read this one so you don't have to. Three stars means it is valid, and on the topic of Septimius Severus, but I would not recommend this to anyone except the biggest fans of Septimius Severus.
