In an alternate world similar to our our own Middle ages. where magic exits but isn't trusted. Two young men from opposite ends of society are faced with new and life changing events. Prince Ferrel is suddenly made king by the death of his parents in what looks like tragic landslide accident. Only he is about to learn, it was no accident. Sinister magical forces are at work to take over the kingdom of Shanfer. Forces he not only knows nothing about. But he doesn't even believe they exist! Struggling to maintain order the way he was trained, he is totally unprepared for what is about to come at him. The other young man is an itinerant laborer with the odd nickname of Nix. He has but a few copper coins to his name as he travels from town to town looking for seasonal farm work. Only along the way he runs in to three very bad men, who steal what little he has. After knocking him out they pitch him into a ravine and leave him for dead. Barely surviving, Nix sets out to find help to get back what is his. With nothing left but his life to lose, he decides it is time stand up and take back what is his. Both these young men feel poorly prepared for the struggle ahead of them. Yet both know they must go on. What they learn about themselves and the world around them puts them on a course to help each other. But only if they manage to live that long!
