Winning the Second Civil War is based on the current threat demonstrated in the 2020 Antifa/BLM Riots and current unrest including the storming of the US Capitol, exacerbated by the deep problems with the 2020 election. The book includes analysis of the history, legality, and consequences of violent protest. It explores what the founders contemplated, what has been attempted before, and how those things influence what is playing out now. Both the Left and Right have some level of insurgency underway and it will be helpful to examine them in that light. It also requires looking at them as unique creations of our current political and cultural climates as well. Even in their extreme positions both still have considerable influence on and acceptance in their larger political movements. Author Jim Hanson shows how the Left and its shock troops are destructive forces to our Republic. The extremists on the Left share common cause with the current path of the Democrats in a belief that America is a force for evil that must be destroyed and remade in a woke image. The extremists on the Right have elements of anti-government ideology and some do want to destroy the current systems. But they are out of step with the vast majority of conservatives who simply want to reassert the values that have always worked for this country. Winning the Second Civil War provides a path to victory to build new political institutions for a stronger Right.
(1.5 stars) (Audiobook) Another in the long line of partisan hagiography, this one decrying the long-standing war of liberals against the conservatives who represent the true American values of America. This work is clearly partisan, and unequivocally biased towards the conservative movement in America. Or rather, the pure form of conservatism, not the "establishment" conservatism practiced by those in power, nor the excesses of "extremist" conservatives, who are ultimately dominating the movement. No, the conservative movement, as espoused by Hanson, is the right way ahead.
To him, while he must acknowledge the disaster that was Jan 6th, perhaps an even more deadly threat to America were the various Black Lives Matter and Antifa movement actions of 2020. In one respect, it is possible that the mainstream media downplayed their impacts. Yet, it is possible that Jan 6th was overhyped. Hanson tries to maintain the veneer of balance, and expresses a message of unity and not falling into the trap of Civil War. Yet, the thesis and the conclusions of this work are all about victory over the liberal movement, which implies that there is conflict and no real way ahead.
I guess I read this to see what the work said. I can see where those who lean heavily towards the conservative viewpoint would very much agree with the premise of this work. Concurrently, those who do not identify with the movement would see this as just another partisan work. It will not change anyone's mind nor bridge any major ideological divides. There are moments where there are logical arguments for consideration, but then those quickly disappear into the standard talking points for the Fox News/Right Wing Crowd, easily dismissed by the Liberal side.
I guess I am open to seeing different viewpoints, but this is clearly a partisan work, and I am not so sure that it changed anyone's mind. I will vehemently disagree with his assertion that the 2nd Amendment is the most important. I hold that the 1st is the most important. Yes, firepower helps, but without the 1st, would this work even be considered or read? I think not.
Good overview of the current turmoil in our country. Was hoping for a little more in depth analysis though. If you've been paying attention to the events of the last year you may know a lot of this already. It's a quick read though and I would still recommend it as an introduction to the current state of the situation.
Wow is this divisive!! Full of gaslighting and rewriting history. Funny how he mentions Clinton's affairs and Obama's inciting words but is silent or excusing of Trump’s. Complains about Hunter being unqualified but not about trumps kids and his conflicts of interest. Reduces the Left to social justice warriors and the right is only about patriotism and the constitution. Left can't be gracious winners and have no self control 🙄 r- individual liberty; L- state control. Acting like cancel culture is just a left tool. Complains about hypocritical inconsistency from the left but this entire book is right sided hypocritical inconsistency. Condemns lefts propaganda and brainwashing but says nothing about the right doing the same thing. Nothing about how each side is of course going to teach what they believe and that diversity and openness is a good thing. This whole book is infuriatingly one sided.
Jim Hanson spent most of his time reviewing the current situation we are faced with in the U.S. I saw him on Tim Pool’s IRL show a couple weeks back and was intrigued by his background and insights. If you are familiar with our current culture wars, I’d suggest o e of two options if you are considering this book. Option 1 - buy the book and read the last couple chapters. Option 2 - watch his interview with Tim Pool.
I’m not trying to discourage anyone from buying and reading the book. If you’ve been living under a rock (and many have) for the last 4-5 years, the book will serve as a great resource.
Honestly, I would have enjoyed the book more had Hanson spent some time developing more of the book around the solutions he proposed.
As a piece of comedy this is great, it’s like a bot formed from republican grifter accounts wrote this. Unfortunately it’s another attempt at rewriting history whilst being filled false equivalences, straw-man arguments, polemics, sophistry and a fact-less collection of claims that require severe mental gymnastics to believe.
Doesn't really merit a review. Democrats bad, liberals bad, leftists bad, republican establishment bad. Every working class person is a righteous conservative, liberals don't work and only take. I think the author is smarter than this but understands what his audience wants to hear so here's a steaming hot pile of it.
