A beautiful deck - images are ethereal & complex, the cards shuffle smoothly a wonderfully detailed hardcover guidebook that gives great information on each card. The cards handle well & have a silky smooth feel that shuffles well from the first use. Gorgeous presentation box.
I love this deck and its artwork; unfortunately the very beauty of the art, the soft gentleness of colours & images, makes it a little difficult to see when doing a reading by candlelight. I have bad eyesight so this may not be a problem for other readers. Still, it’s a lovely deck and well-worth adding to your collection.
Heavenly Bodies Astrology is a gorgeous, informative, and hands-on way to learn Western Astrology (note: this is not for those wanting to learn Chinese, Hindu, or other methods of Astrology).
I've been a Tarot reader for 17 years, but the only Golden Dawn association I hadn't researched yet was Astrology because horoscopes never made sense to me. So I decided to give this a shot after reading reviews from seasoned Astrologists that said wished they had this tool as beginners.
After only 10 minutes of reading the beautifully succinct guidebook, I understood the system and was doing Astrology for the first time!
I see now why "pop culture" horoscopes never worked for me -- it's like pulling one Tarot card each for 12 groups of 800,000 people and expecting it to be accurate for all of them. Horoscopes should be personally read for an individual to make sense, just like Tarot readings.
This deck is designed to be read as a narrative -- building a story from keywords, images, and intuition. Obviously, most Tarot readings should also be a narrative, but this deck really relies on the reader to be the teller of their own story.
Tarot readers will especially appreciate that the cards have recurring images to remind you which Hermetic Element each Sign is.
This set won't teach you how to map your own Natal Charts, but it can help you decipher them after you input the info. The creator's site offers a free Natal Chart print-out, as well as a monthly "activity book" subscription designed to help you practice Astrology and integrate it into your regular Practice.
If you too think Astrology is bs or doesn't make sense, give this set a try! As a former skeptic, it's quick, easy, and very accurate for me!
Gorgeous card system based on Western Astrology and a guidebook to accompany it. The art is mesmerizing, the colors dreamy and the cards created with such attention to the detail. I received this as a gift from my friend and I am so grateful for her kindness.
Both the deck and guidebook are of great quality and well-thought-out! The guidebook obviously covers only the very basics (if so), but it is excellent for beginners in astrology because it provides enough information for someone to make sense of what each term means without overwhelming the reader with too many details. The guidebook explains in short what the basic astrological terms mean and how to work with the deck (plus a few spreads) and then gives the meanings of the cards. Each card is allocated 2 pages. For every card, there is a paragraph or two about its meaning, some keywords, and an omen (what the card could mean in a reading or a suggested action to take). I really liked the writing style. However, I didn't like the italic font used in the first section for each card. I found it tiring to read at times. (I don't have bad eyesight, but I felt that after a while the i,t and r blended together and I had to focus to make out some of the words). Also, I found the keywords on the cards quite helpful for readings but the keywords in the guidebook lacking. I totally understand that having a million keywords on a card is not functional for readings. However, offering a few extra keywords in the guidebook could be rather helpful when someone gets stuck in a reading and looking for alternative meanings. Moreover the author could have included the chronological associations (i.e. start and end of each astro sign) in the guidebook which can be very useful in astrological readings! This may not necessarily be the best deck for illustrating professional astrology readings as the keywords can be very limiting. Having said that, I honestly think that this is one of the best mass-market astrological decks out there at the moment and possibly the best one for very beginners!
