Adaline Ripley loved them both, but not at the same time. Sometimes you have to say goodbye to the one you love to find the one you're supposed to be with. Even if it breaks your heart. At the age of thirty-two she never thought her fourteen-year marriage to her high school sweetheart would be coming to an end. She uproots herself, along with her twin boys, and heads back to her hometown to live with her parents. She quickly learns that being a stay-at-home mom was great when there was someone else paying the bills. With no career to fall back on, she must now figure out how to take care of her boys on her own. Adaline had one encounter with Malcom Murray during their childhood and it was awkward enough for her to be okay with never seeing him ever again. But one day he shows up and his voice is dangerously sexy to Adaline’s ears. He should come with a warning. She could fall in love with a voice like his, if she were allowing herself to fall in love. Will her divorce ever be final? Why is a handsome well-educated dad like Malcom Murray single? And what’s with these women who he refers to as his females?
Wow, author T.M. Shivener didn't hold back when she wrote Why It's Called a Goodbye! Be prepared for a good dose of gritty reality and genuine emotion in this heartfelt read.
Adaline is back in her hometown with her teenaged twin boys, living with her parents and going through a messy divorce. Malcom, also a single parent, has his own problems to deal with, but there's just something about Addy. These two can't seem to stay away from each other.
So I loved how the tone of the story started out melancholy and slowly morphed into some well-deserved contentment for Addy and Mac.
"One day in October I woke up and you were all I could think about."
Then I got blindsided by a huge twist!! It sure made for a satisfying HEA though. 😍😍
This is a first book that I have read from this author. I found it from one of my reading groups and wanted to give it a try.
I read a preview before downloading it to my KU because I needed to know what happened. I thought it was a good story but the heroine got on my loving nerves because she was so whiny. I kept trying to put myself in her place for her thought process but she still got on my nerves at times. Overall, I loved Malcolm how loving and understanding he was towards Addy. A little twist was thrown in unexpectedly which gave the story more depth and clarity of the title. I may try reading another book from this author to see what else she has.
Why It's Called a Goodbye by T.M. Shivener h catches Husband with OW ( his assistant ), instead of making a scene she records it leaves. Then after confronting him home, she packs and leaves with their sons (twins) to her parents home in a different state. She wants to leave him for good and move back home. There see encounters a men from her pass ( H) ... but he also has a baggage...
Why it's called a Goodbye by T.M shivener. I receive my book in a giveaway by the author and that was the first time I know of her .at first look at the book I liked the cover so much and it intrigued me to read the book . The first part of the book where Adelina had to change all her life felt real and interesting specially when she found her career . and made me want to contain reading . But when we hit the second part and get to know her better .I just couldn't love her .for me I found the way she babyes her boys annoying plus I don't like that she had a judgement streak in her in every one life .but I like the other characters just fine . Malcolm was funny and supportive characters . And the boys were nice also . The writing of the book was very good also the editing made me like it even more . Also liked the last struggle Adelaina found her self facing after her accident and how it touches a real problem facing a lot of women . I just felt the ending needing more maybe a secen after a few months or so . Over all it is a good book and will make you want to read more from this author for me it is three and half star ⭐⭐⭐✨
I loved loved LOVED this book!!! When I first saw its cover, I knew that I just HAD to read it, and the story sure didn't disappoint me. I loved Malcolm FROM THE START, and Adaline was pretty great too. I was shipping them SOOOO baddd, and I was kinda disappointed by the ending-I didn't want the book to end! I kept craving more and more like a junkie craving her next hit, and gosh-from the moment I started this beauty, I WAS HOOKED. This book kindaaa reminded me of Mariana Zapata's books, 'cause both of their writing styles are so similar, and that you just can't get enough of Mariana's books too-even after the book ends, you keep craving it more and more!
Tijan's writing style lovers, especially the ones who loved the way she wrote 'Enemies' & 'The Not-Outcast', will LOVE Tanji's writing style-it's simple, and addicting!
Overall, I'll give this 4.5/75 stars, it was THAT good. Can't wait for T.M. 's next book!!!!!
This book books you from the very start when Adaline finds her husband cheating. Her heartbreak was palpable. Her journey towards finding herself and becoming independent was beautiful. Malcolm 😍 Of course things get steamy 🔥🔥🔥
Malcolms love for his daughter Elsie was so sweet.
The story of Elsie’s mom was so sad and kept me on the edge of my seat, scared for Elsies safety. I wanted to shout at Malcolm for letting her go see her sometimes 🤣 And then there’s Amy, the clerk at Adaline’s parents store. The story of her and her little brothers broke my heart and made me ugly cry. And then that ending. HOLY CRAP. Didn’t see that coming at all.
In a nutshell: this book is a beautiful, story of a woman reclaiming her own life after years of devoting it to someone else who didn’t deserve it. It will break your heart at times, and make you feel giddy in other times. If you’re a fan of Colleen Hoover books you’ll enjoy this one.
Addy and Malcom's story was realistic and relatable. It was sweet and yet at times sad. Definitely tugged at my heart strings. And even though some of their choices made me frustrated one second, they totally had me swooning the next. A good story with real ups and downs is just what I've been after. I needed a break from the mushy cookie cutter fairytales that we get book to book. So this was a score for me as this new to me author gave me what reads and feels like a real love story. Snag this one and you'll be sure to fall for Malcom in this bittersweet love story.
I'll be looking forward to more from this author in the future.
The fast pace of the writing kind of threw me off a bit. Which made it seem like there was a lack of emotion sometimes but I still enjoyed the story.
From the very beginning Adaline knew what she wanted. She didn’t dwell on things and made quick decisions to make sure her and her children were taken care of. I loved her determination and drive to make something of herself so she can be independent and not rely on others. Malcom was the breath a fresh air Adaline needed. I could physically see their cemetery while reading. There were some twists I was not expecting and in the end I was left with a smile on my face.
I was lucky enough to be chosen to read an ARC of Why It’s Called a Goodbye. Each book I read from T.M. Shivener is better than the last, and the characters are truly relatable. From page one of this book, I was pulled right in to the story and 100% invested in Adaline’s journey. Her story with each of the other characters had me hanging onto every word and wanting more. I definitely think this should be the first book of a series because I WANT... NEED... more of Addy and Mac! I absolutely recommend reading this book!!
I recieved an arc copy in exchange for an honest review. This is the fourth book I have read by T.M. Shivener and she never disappoints. Once again she brings her characters to life in real world scenarios with real world emotions and consequences. With each page you're drawn into Adaline and Malcom's world. This isn't you're typical girl meets boy romance. The real world doesn't work like that and that's not the author's style. This book will leave you wanting a sequel to because you love the story. Highly recommend this and all of her other books.
I received an ARC Copy of Why It's Called a Goodbye. Once I saw the cover of the book I knew I had to get my hands on a copy. One thing this book taught me was you never know what's going to happen next even in real life. I was hooked after the first three chapters. I wasn't able to put the book down, I was so engaged. I felt like I was living in the book with the characters. The only sad part was when the book came to an end, but all good things have to come to an end.
T.M Shivener never disappoints! I loved this book(actually all 4). I can totally relate to this book as I was involved with someone before my divorce was finalized and I actually went on to have twin boys myself. Adaline & Malcolm had great chemistry, so much it was hard for me to put the book down. I’d recommend T.M Shivenera books to everyone(actually I do). Great job once again and look forward to #5.
This story is so realistic and yet hard to read. I have seen this play out in many variations with families going through a divorce. A tragic accident and subsequent catastrophe leaves a lasting impression. You may be mad but also motivated to plan ahead for life altering situations you never dreamed of until this book.
I’m not a reader but T.M. Shivener’s books keep me interested. Relatable story lines and characters, which is important to me. I can easily imagine myself in the situations she presents. I will definitely be checking out her future books! They are very engaging.
I enjoyed it. It was an easy read, but the ending seemed a little rushed. Maybe the whole books seemed a little rushed. Some parts got annoying. The beginning was great, but all the rest seemed a little rushed.
Her books are SO EASY TO LOVE! another great one!!! When I read anything by T.M. Shivener its like I'm just having brunch with a great friend, listening to their story. She is one if my go to when I need something good.
I loved this book so much! I enjoyed reading about Adaline and her family and felt as though they were my own. This book has many twists that kept me on the edge of my seat! Five stars!
5/5 🌟 Oh dear sweet Adaline 😭. So many twist and turns on her journey to find true love. The characters of Adaline and Malcolm is so easy to relate to normal people. What I enjoyed about this book besides the roller-coaster of emotions and twist is that most love stories has a Billionaire hot guy and the lonely poor girl who become star crossed lovers and the girl chips away at the Billionaires iceberg heart and turns him into this amazing lover but not this book. The characters are everyday normal people. Job well done T.M Shivener !
This is my second novel by T.M. Shivener and I loved it! I do not normally read Romance at all, but I loved her writing style in She is Me, Too so I had to give this one a try. I was not disappointed. There are so many amazing elements to this book that I can't even begin to explain. I have now downloaded all of her novels and am excited to read each and every one. This book will have you feeling so many emotions that you will be on an emotional roller coaster. If romance isn't your genre of choice still open this book! You won't be disappointed.
Love how this author takes you through the ups and downs of relationships and the different cycles. Fell in love with Malcolm and Adeline... while starting to dislike their exes. This author knows how to pull at your heart strings and make you cry with simple lines throughout the book, while you giving that true passionate love ,steamy sexual appeal making you turn the page for more.
This book covered so many real, heavy life issues. A beautiful story of overcoming lifes obstacles and finding love in the midst of a storn. Very realistic, which makes it pretty heavy.
