Repossession agent Cristine O’Connor escaped the horrible memories of her past in Austin and buried herself deep in a new, safe, quiet life. Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Nick McClain sucks at undercover work, but that doesn’t stop the powers that be from sending him into the field, and into danger. When Cris repossesses a car and discovers Nick locked in the trunk, it’s just a matter of time until their secrets—and their pasts—collide. They’ll need to risk everything, including their hearts, to survive.
TL Schaefer writes romantic suspense and romantic mysteries, and chances are there may be some some stuff that goes bump in the night.
If you like your heroes in uniform (be they cops, firefighters, or military) and your heroines with a bit of quirk, then swing by her website or visit her Facebook group, Musings From the Blonde Side where she talks about books, cats and her very own romance hero.
Christine is a repossession agent. She enjoys her job, her colleagues and her boss. The thrill of pulling off a touchy repossession stirs the blood and gives her a thrill she needs now and then. But she got more than she bargained for when she takes possession of a car on her own instead of with her partner. Yeah, she gets the car, but there’s a big car full of baddies chasing after her, and they aren’t nervous about using a gun to make an impression. Chris barely makes it into the compound yard and the gate closed when they catch up to her. What is in this car to bring on that kind of heat? Then she opens the trunk and sees a hint. There’s a guy in there. Maybe he’s the reason she was chased and shot at? She eventually discovers that he’s Nick MsClain, a special agent for the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigations. Holy cow! What follows is a game of tag as Chris and Nick try to piece together who the baddies are. In the chase, they discover each other. That’s what they need in order to come out of their dilemma alive.
What a great book! Ms. Schaefer knows how to keep the action moving and the emotions building. I was rooting for Chris and Nick to get together—while I was hoping they’d stay at greater than room temperature! The romance (and the steam) is strong, the characters are fun and yet realistic, and the plot is tightly woven. You can’t go wrong with Duck and Run—highly recommended.
The premise for this book was so interesting and it could’ve been so good except it lacked so much detail. It skimmed through scenes and left so many loose ends, it was hard to believe. Like a house break in without any detail on how the intruders got on and left without trashing the place or broken doors - only a stolen phone that was charging in the office. And then on top of that, even though said phone had our heroine, Cris O’Connor’s whole life on it - nothing was actually used on it. Or how Cris drove out of the garage she was cornered in but the people after Nick (and now Cris) only leave with the Vette and their damaged vehicle but leaves all the high end vehicles supposedly still sitting in said garage. And how did Karla escape those people? The reader just has to make up their own mind as all we’re given is she’s OK and totally fine.
Yet the author provided very specific details about how their hiding place and storm shelter.
The book could’ve also done with a proofread as there were stray apostrophes and incorrect/missing/extra words. At times it was hard to gouge the emotions of the characters based on their reactions.

The story is really good and original. It was my first book by TL Schaefer and I enjoyed it a lot. She is strong and vulnerable in the same time. He is a former marine but has been badly injured a long time ago so he has also his weakness. They understand each othe very well and fit perfectly together
Excellent read! This book kept my interest from page one until the end. The relationship between Nick and Chris was wild and complicated. You really got to know the characters and understand them. I recommend this book and will be getting the next one in the series as soon as I finish this review.
A job to protect a woman from a n insane woman due to her appearance and size people had a problem accepting she was so damaged. 2 strangers who had given upon love finds that they are not unworthy of love there's someone out there for everyone.
Cris, a former ranger is hiding after a disastrous case put a target on her back. Nick is under cover hiding in a car boot. Cris repossesses the car and their lives take a turn for the worst. This was an okay read even though the back story to Nicks case didn’t quite ring true. Especially a ruse to flush out the Perp where no backup was behind them.
Loved this action filled Romantic Suspense- great characters and dialog. Cris makes for a tough, knowledgeable heroine who keeps hero Nick on his toes. Loved watching these two work together while the sparks were flying! Great book!! Looking forward to more from this series.
This book was a quick read but had no depth to the plotting. Yes the characters were given background but they all felt surface level. It was just not great and had too much going on.
