This volume comprises the papers presented at the International Conference on Experimental and Computational Mechanics (ECM02), which was held in Dunhuang, China. The proceedings of this Sino-Japanese conference covered wide range of topics related to experimental and computational mechanics. Each of the 10 subject areas (computational mechanics, composites, design, dynamics, experiment, fluid dynamics, fracture mechanics, materials behaviour, numerical simulation, and sand, soil and bio-mechanics) included many stimulating and innovative papers; covering every materials group and most properties. The more than 100 contributions were presented by 160 experts from the USA, China, France, Japan, the UK and other countries, and presented the advances in fields which included numerical simulation, automobile design, aeronautics and aerospace, production engineering, materials testing, surveillance, energy production, biomechanics, civil engineering and environmental issues. This volume should be a valuable addition to the bookshelf of any scientist, engineer or academic library; especially those having interdisciplinary interests.
