Albert Hodges Morehead, Jr. (August 7, 1909 – October 5, 1966) was a writer for The New York Times, a bridge player, a lexicographer, and an author and editor of reference works.
The Morehead/Mott-Smith volume was published after Dalton’s individual books on the subject but predates his omnibus volume. Thus they were in direct competition. The differences are clear. Dalton provides puzzles and illustrative games worked out. He offers more hints about play and gives his opinions about the games more frequently. Morehead/Mott-Smith spend their time on the games and thus cover more solitaire games in fewer pages. The book was clearly quite popular and had several printings into the seventies. David Parlett felt that it was nearest to being what he felt a Patience book should be.
It was published by Faber and Faber in excellent quality HB and PB editions either of which can be easily obtained.
