I've just started this book, but the things I love about it already: * Its compact size * Its short devotions that each focus on one Bible verse * There are no dates, and the 30 devos aren't even numbered—so I can pick it up (without guilt) whenever I need a quick moment of calm
Other things to know: * It's light reading—no deep dives into Bible passages (though you're welcome to go deeper if you want!) * Reflection questions & space to answer are included if you enjoy that sort of thing
I'm excited that Kathi & Cheri—the women who brought us Overwhelmed: How to Quiet the Chaos and Restore Your Sanity—have now provided a tool to de-overwhelm-ify our quiet times and remind us to breathe and know that Jesus is with us and God is our refuge.
But to have a garden in the summer, you must be willing to dare to dream in the winter.
Kathi and Cheri never cease to amaze me. They are truly some of the most kind and humble women, and this book is a testament to not only their writing abilities, but to their faith.
If you are in a dark season or even just a season of struggle, I cannot recommend this devotional enough. It got me through some tough days, and was a beautiful source of encouragement when I needed it the most.
This book is such a sweet devotional. I love the short, daily chapters, and the rhythm of the SPACE questions...and the spaces to write in the book. Also, it's a beautifully designed and printed book-would make a great gift!
This book has been a breath of fresh air. I am, like Cheri Gregory, a recovering perfectionist. But this book gives me permission to rest, relax, and revive in the arms of Our Lord, without leaving my home, without having all the things, without the perfect environment.
I love the diversity of these two authors’ lifestyles. One lives in the mountains and the other lives by the ocean. Passionately written, An Abundant Place is beautifully woven between drama and ordinary happenings of both worlds. Their journeys through personal trial and error, humor, and grit encourage women, like me who can’t get away, to create a retreat with God at home. There is ample space to record your thoughts, actions, and much more based on the authors’ comments and questions of each day’s devotion. My favorite journal space is where the authors ask, “What has God committed to you in this verse?” This is a devotional one can read again and again, and receive something new from God each time.
A wonderful devotional that allows you to take a mini-retreat when feeling overwhelmed. It gives you the time to bask in the Lord for a few moments and just breathe. The devotions are dated so you can read whichever one want when you want and as many times as you want. Kathi and Cheri definitely didn’t disappoint with this devotional but also gave me many moments I didn’t even know I needed. It’s beautiful cover is the final touch for a lovely gift for you or a friend.
Reading "An Abundant Place" feels to me like I'm sitting with good friends over (good) coffee listening to their extremely relatable stories of the realities we as women face, and getting amazing but down to earth ideas of how to navigate the situations. Love this, it truly is a retreat for the soul! :-)
This series of devotionals is thought provoking, often entertaining and very practical. There is room for notes and a call to action in every chapter. I highly recommend it!
A well written book of 2-3 page devotionals that use relatable stories to link you to a deeper time with Jesus.
I really enjoyed this devotional. Each chapter stands alone. There are bible verses so you can dig deeper into scripture if you feel the need. I think this would be a great gift book! If you gave it to someone, they could read a devotional once a day, once a week, once a month and not feel guilty about the choice. There are no dates in it! The stories related to each devotional are very relatable. Kathi makes me want to buy chickens and I feel like Cheri & I could sit with coffee and trade "reformed people pleaser" stories.
Big spoiler here - these authors are amazing. They both have great work as individuals, but their partnerships are always AMAZING. I can’t wait to dive into this one and explore a topic that is soooooo important!!!
Now more than ever I’m longing for that much needed getaway! Everywhere I turn there is news of fear, sickness and overwhelm. We can’t escape the troubles of this world but we can create a space to quiet our hearts and minds. This book will help you do just that! Kathi and Cheri will take you into their homes, their yards and on walks with them as they learn to view God through the lens of nature in their own surroundings. With steps on how to create a cozy and inviting space, a refuge, in your own home. An Abundant Place invites you to stop for a few minutes each day and refresh your soul.
I am just starting this book but have LOVED every devotion so far. Kathi and Cheri write in such a relatable way, and I constantly find myself nodding, smiling, and connecting to their stories. The best part? The SPACE format for processing each verse at the end of the devotion. These light blue pages (with room to write in) are meaningful, short, and eliminate any pressure to do it “right”. The SPEAK, PONDER, ACT, COMMIT, and EXPRESS part allows for very individual responses and precious, focused time to connect with Jesus. This is fantastic!
"An Abundant Place" is the second book I read that was coauthored by Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory. Since I was previously acquainted with their penmanship, I knew what to expect: honestly with a dash of love. Although these two ladies live in the areas where people often spend money to adventure or vacate, they are not shy to tell the honest truth about the hardship of living in both places. Along with the hardship, there are jewels to be found. Jewels in both places. Both physically and spiritually. With their spiritual insight, they are able to share with the reader devotional thoughts that only take about five minutes to read. Even though the thoughts are simple, they are also profound. The reader is able to use a technique the authors call “creating space” to allow a deeper dive into the Biblical scripture that is found in each devotional thought. With such a practical way of applying scripture into ones daily life and the written visuals of two well sought places, how can one resist such a book?
“What actually happened is I proceeded to lose it for the rest of the day.” – Cheri Gregory.
When I read that, I KNEW this book was for me, I have had days like that as well. Too many to count actually. I tend to over pack my calendar. How about you?
An Abundant Place is, to me, an invitation to slow down and create space for myself and for God. That is honestly something I am not good at doing. We all lead busy lives and some seasons are busier than others.
I have gotten into the habit of being one and done with my devotional books. I read the daily devotion in about 30 seconds, check it off my list and move on with my day. This book doesn’t read like that. It makes me slow down, gives me a chance to ponder what is really being said and spending time with God. Kathi and Cheri invite us into their respective worlds with a level of transparency that I find absolutely refreshing.
I highly recommend this book. There are 30 devotions and I love that they are not dated, which means I can pour myself a cup of tea, find my favorite chair, which is sometimes my car in the garage if I’m being honest, and pick up anywhere I want.
Let's face it... the last nearly two years have taken their toll on every one of us... in every way conceivable - our physical health, mental health, spiritual health. We are continually barraged with information, bad news, grief over people and freedoms that we have lost - and a lot of our usual coping activities have been drastically altered or just outright cancelled. Now more than ever, we desperately need some relaxing time to ourselves... to quiet the cacophony of chaos constantly swirling around us. This gorgeous book of devotionals offers the reader an opportunity to take a mini-retreat whenever time allows and provides a warm and cozy SPACE to spend a little quiet time with God to combat the weariness in your soul. My favorite feature? I absolutely LOVE that there is ample room right in the book to journal your personal thoughts and reflections. An Abundant Place: Daily Retreats for the Woman Who Can't Get Away is an invitation to rest in the LORD's peace and find the "next faith-filled step" in the middle of my everyday chaos. How I've needed this hard-won guidance from Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory! I am grateful for the way this devotional surrounds me with encouragement and practical steps to face life, and enjoy life.
A must-read manual for creating space for God in your everyday life
Kathi and Cheri have given us a true gift--how to create time to draw close to God in the midst of our everyday lives . As a ministry leader I am always on the lookout for resources I can recommend to our friends and followers, and this book shot to the top of our list for 2022. Their daily devotions are packed with spiritual wisdom learned in their own life experiences. Kathi and Cheri will show you how to listen to your life and connect with God there.
They've also created a user-friendly model for taking a daily dive into scripture that doesn't require a degree in theology; just a listening heart. The acronym they use (SPACE) is something that will let you spend as little or as much time as you want lingering in your special place with God's Word.
This is a book every woman needs to read. We owe it to ourselves and to God to train our hearts to be able to draw close to Him in our everyday spaces. This book will help you do that. Thank you ladies, for this beautiful gem.
With the world’s unsettling current events, this devotional book was exactly what my heart, mind, and soul needed. I read it as part of an online Book Study with the authors, Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory.
Although short, the devotions are written in an authentic, conversational style with a message that hits home, stimulating further reflection. Using the S.P.A.C.E. acronym (Speak, Ponder, Act, Commit, Express) to go deeper into the concise, accompanying Bible verse(s), readers discover truths and takeaways for their own lives. It is in the process of intentionally setting this habitual daily “retreat” time that readers find the keys to abundant living.
An Abundant Place: Daily Retreats for the Woman Who Can’t Get Away is suitable for personal and group study. I’d love to see this book packaged with study videos featuring Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory as both are engaging speakers and teachers.
We are all so busy these days, this book offers a brief retreat from the pull of everyday life. Kathi and Cheri share relatable anecdotes that encourage one to slow down, stop, think, and take in a deep breath. With each entry, a theme verse sets the stage for an opportunity to let the word refresh your soul. The relatable stories are light-hearted to deep-thinking, yet inevitably offer hope. The format is perfect, with a verse, story, and leading questions. The daily practice can be completed in just a few minutes and offers a great way to start or end the day.
Kathi and Cheri have put together a beautiful devotional that has already been such a blessing to me. Each day I find a practical suggestion for holding space for reflection and meditation. I am encouraged by words that affirm the need for self-care. I anticipate this book making a tremendous difference in my daily practices. If aesthetics matter to you, the pages are lovely to the touch. This is a journal I will keep and reference over and over. Go get yourself a copy now!
Kathi and Cheri have graciously provided 30 opportunities to step away from whatever challenges you are facing and find rest and connection with God. This book meets you where you are by providing quick reads to reflect on for days that are short on time, and a guided SPACE process for deeper dives. Every chapter is an invitation to practice self care by seeking a short respite from daily responsibilities.
I've been on a similar journey as the authors of An Abundant Place--to transform my quiet time from simply a study time about God to learning to enjoy my time with God and becoming refreshed by his presence. Approaching my time with God as an oasis that I can retreat to anytime, no matter my circumstances has been so needed. Thank you to the wonderful authors who help lead us through this book to this wide-open, abundant place.
This book while small, packs a BIG punch and offers a treasure trove of short stories and reflections to help women take a pause from their busy lives to seek rest, peace and God’s presence right where she is. Spending 15-20 minutes each day with this sweet little book over the last 30ish days provided much needed calm in the midst of my daily chaos. It’s also beautifully designed and would make a wonderful gift for the Christian woman who desperately needs to get away for a retreat but can’t.
An Abundant Place is a wonderful devotional book from Kathi and Cheri, two women who know what it is like to be over committed and need space to attend to their spiritual lives. It is full of down to earth devotionals that all women can relate to. There is even space provided to write down your own thoughts.
Do you struggle to find rest for your mind and soul? If you’re like me - and most women these days - the answer is a resounding YES. Just reading the introduction helped me breathe deep. After reading one lovely nature-themed devotionals, room for S.P.A.C.E. facilitated a time of quietude and connection with God that would have been difficult on my own. I very highly recommend this book!
Such a lovely mini retreat for your daily writer time. Devotions filled with heart and real talk. This little book meets you wherever you are, and draws you closer to God. It is truly a retreat when you can't get away.
