Mae Norris has a plan. Actually, what she has is a to-do list. She has been loyal to the wrong man her whole life, and now she’s ready to find out what she’s been missing.
First on the list: Have sex with a stranger.
Jamie Harding is intrigued by her plan, and agrees to be her stranger. But he can’t get Mae out of his head, and “one night only” quickly turns into much more than either of them had intended.
Jamie knows he’s barreling toward disaster, because there’s things on her list he can’t help her with. He can’t ask her to stop, and he can’t bear to watch. Will there be anything left for Jamie when Mae has finally found herself?
Trigger warning: Table Five includes several explicit sex scenes. Please proceed with this in mind.
Anna Cackler is a lover of story – and a sucker for drama, romance, and dark beauty. Which is odd, considering how generally unserious she is most of the time. She’s married to her best friend, and they have a lovely little family in Arkansas. They have two dogs, a cat, a slew of chickens, and a pond in their front yard that won’t hold water. She’s pretty sure there’s a metaphor in there, somewhere.
After wasting ten years with her cheating ex-boyfriend, Mae Norris is now on a road to self discovery. Armed with a list that she hopes will help her find herself, she recruits Jamie Harding, a customer at her bookshop, to help her get started. Though reluctant at first, Jamie soon takes to the quirky Mae. Before he knows it, he is helping her tick items off the list and what should have been a one-time hook up begins to feel like more.
A steamy, hot narrative with a sweet love story underneath, Table Five was quite a refreshing read. You can't help but cheer for Mae who has decided to empower herself by reclaiming her sexuality. She was brave to push her boundaries and go outside her comfort zone, but also strong enough to say no where it mattered. There is also a very relevant conversation in the story that discusses this - the difference between being a tease and knowing your mind.
I'm thrilled that the author portrayed Mae and Jamie as two ordinary people which made them so much more relatable, rather than the alpha-male/gorgeous babe trope that is seen in most romance novels. Despite the multiple (and explicit) intimate scenes, the author has taken sensitivity factors into account - such as, Jamie seeking consent from Mae in their first time together, even though it was her idea.
Overall, I loved the plot and the characters; the sub-characters too. Table Five is perfect for those looking for a steamy read to unwind. Thank you to the author, Anna Cackler for providing and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was a Critique Partner during the production of this novel. It was a fast read that flowed well which is always a sign of great writing. I thoroughly enjoyed the empowerment of women in a sexual context and hope to see more themes similar to this in the future. I've got to say that a bunch of the sex scenes "got me in the mood"... so they got the job done. My only critique would've been to feel a little more attracted to the main male lead character, but that's just my personal type/preference. Since the edits, Anna has improved the story and details even further. I can't wait to read more novels by her, especially "Little Owl," a work in progress in a different genre completely. It shows how well rounded of an author Anna is.
Loved this story. It captured my imagination and got me hooked. So hooked I read it in one sitting!
Mae is a great character. I love her development throughout this story. She starts timid, but by the end has gained an inner strength that kept me turning each page. Her relationship with Table Five (Jamie) is smoking hot. My kindle was sizzling! This is a very spicy, daring book and could have quite a few single women setting up their own bucket lists.
Best speech ever came from Mae’s best friend Margie. When you read this book, you’ll identify the speech in seconds. It’s inspirational and a speech that should be given to ever young, single woman out there!
Great writing by Anna Cackler, I’ll be looking for more of her work in the future.
Mae and Jamie are adorable! Mae is looking to check things off her newly made bucket list and asks Jamie to help her with the first item. However, sex with a stranger becomes so much more as the two find they have a connection. They continue through Mae's list completing items two, three and four together and then Mae has to venture off on her own but Jamie doesn't want to lose her. This book is about falling in love at a time when you aren't looking but it finds you anyways. It's a beautiful and fun story.
First off, I highly recommend signing up for the author’s newsletter. It comes with an exclusive prequel that I believe to be crucial to the storyline and character development. The book is about a newly single woman’s delve into a sexual awakening that develops into a relationship with an adventurous sex life. I would have enjoyed a deeper development of her partner’s character and am left with a curiosity to learn more about these characters and how their relationship continues to develop. I really hope there will be a sequel.
This is one of those stories that immediately hooks you in and then suddenly the entire day has flashed by because you literally can't put the book down. Mae and Jamie are great characters and their chemistry is hot. I loved the growth you see in Mae throughout the story, as well as the attachment that Jamie feels after what should have only been one encounter. Definitely adding this author to my follow list.

Mae is a very courageous woman longing to break totally free from a stagnant exsistance; and who's only desires to experience things she never had but always dreamed of. However Mae is less then thrilled when her painful past comes storming into her new life; she has no intentions of repeating past mistakes. Instead she choices to look forward.

A brilliant idea, two engaging MCs, a lovely flowing, easy-to-read style (binge-worthy), some angst, and plenty of steam. What more could you want from a curl-up-on-the-sofa-and-let-the-world-go-by read? I found this book delightful to read and will definitely be awaiting more from this Author.
