I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy through the publishers and thoroughly enjoyed it. Back to Big Mos world. After her escapades in Dirty Tricks Big Mo is top of the tree and heir apparent to the Southpaw empire. But heavy is the head that wears the crown. Does she have what it takes to stay there? It doesn't help when those close are plotting her downfall.
A marvellous follow up with more twists and turns than a roller-coaster. But what makes it great are the characters and the backdrop. Dreda S M doesn't just write words she paints pictures. One of the best descriptive writers alive today. I would go as far as Dickensian like. We have Brother Bertie with tude the crocked pork pie hat his love of tunes and his moonshine no mercy rum. (If anyone was going to play him on screen it would be Rudolph Walker all day) We also have Sister Argie Bargie (Aggie) a nicotine loving nun who ain't afraid to get stuck in 🤛 (Eastenders again Arjee Bajhi anyone?) And there is a dry spin in a launderettes that Dot Cotton would not approve of (ooh I say!)
I have read all of the authors books all great but I think Big Mo is her finest work and can't wait for book 3. ❤️
If you are planning on reading the books in order maybe avoid reviews as they will inevitably contain spoliers!
I finished book one in this series in just two sittings and was itching to get onto the next book. We now know that Big Mo is Jimmy Southpaws Granddaughter and as such he has chosen to make her the head of his empire. A notorious criminal and a well known face, so people were shocked to see him let Mo take the reigns, especially those closest to Jimmy. While those closest to Mo are planning her comeuppance, Mo herself is dealing with some strange new relationships including that with her stepmother Kristal. Add into that mix Nico Sinclair a bad boy and fellow criminal and you have yourself a gritty gangland book.
The storyline steams along with all the storylines playing out in first class fashion. The writing was as always amazing, the characters were people you couldn't stop reading about and this second book in the series is just as good as the first. If you love this gangland style of book then you cannot go wrong with this series, but do yourself a favour and start with book 1. A book that I thoroughly enjoyed!
BIG MO is back and is fighting dirty Big Mo Watson now nineteen years old, is now living with her new found family grandad Jimmy "Southpaw" she adores this man he is the powerful head of the Steele family, a leading figure in the East End London underworld. Mo is now the heir to his criminal empire, and ready to learn and prove herself, and won't rest till she set's out to find out who has done her father Robbie in and done the evil deed. She don't trust anyone not even family. This is the second instalment after enjoying the first I couldn't wait to read more, this girl is one feisty small chic who takes no stick, right from the off we learn about who her father really was some good some bad. It has everything put all together murders, dirty deeds, sex and this girl comes out fighting dirty. Loved the whole lot and looking forward to Book Three from this author, excellent read. A slap bang cracker.
Yet another good book by Dreda Say Mitchell, I knew it would be. Page after page after page, I actually read it and turned the next page to realise that I'd finished it. This is the first time I've ever done that, I was soo shocked. I'm now hoping that there's another book in the series. I love the characters especially Big Mo, I wish someone would just spill the beans on the relationship between her parents (Precious and Robbie). I also wanna know who actually killed her father and why. I think to be honest it finished too quickly for me lool
Big Mo is back, and is now Jimmy Southpaws chosen head of his gangland business. Some are looking at her as a young girl and are definitely underestimating what she can do. Kristal and Harry have had their noses put out of joint at Jimmy’s choice. Will they be able to discredit Big Mo or will she show them she’s the right person for the job. You will be gripped from page one. I look forward to catching up with Big Mo again in book 3, and the other fab characters like Ruddy and Brother Bertie
This book is the 2nd in the Big Mo Series. It is a fantastic gangland crime thriller, lots of great characters to draw you in , very gritty and also funny in places. Dreda Say Mitchell has that knack of mixing the two and it results in a superb series you just don't want to end. If you havent read this I urge you to do so. Terrific!!
I enjoyed reading this and seeing how Mo was getting on, it kept my attention from page one and what I liked most was Ruddy and Brother Bertie, they add a light hearted part to the book. I’m looking forward to reading the third book.
I have this book four stars because I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book.. I hope No makes her peace with her mum and she gets the answers she wants about why nobody opened her dad's cell door when the police station was set on fire.
Well ,well ,well. Yet another banger from the very talented Dreda! I loved everything about this book ,from the characters to the storyline. I always recommend anything from Dreda and will continue to do so, so keep em coming, I'm waiting!!!
Dreda is a class act all the way! Her writing is colourful, humorous, and she pulls you through the story she is telling with skill. I love her books, this was a cracker, can't wait for the next!
Disappointed with the sudden ending with no mention of a book 3 to follow.was thoroughly enjoying the storyline and characters up until then . Look forward to a book 3 if there is one.
I enjoyed reading this story even if I found it quite light hearted in comparison to some of DSM’s other gangland novels. Looking forward to the next instalment.
I enjoyed this book but not as good as the first. I will still read further books though. A bit slowed paced at times but good strong characters. Big Mo is great!
