In this volume we get some answers to what on earth is going on but also a lot more questions and confusion.

This series varies pretty widely in quality and doesn't have the same pull from the series it is a spin-off of. Hoping the ending is at least decent.

the first chapter of this volume finally sheds more light on what’s going on, explaining why some of the people present are aware of a “duty” and have items that remind them they are not in the real world.

their heart was artificially stopped to get information from Kiina, who is in a coma in between life and death.

there goes my hypothesis that this is the origin story of borderland and the joker. this actually takes place after the meteorite attack that starts the events of Alice in Borderland.

i appreciated the focus on Kimari in this volume. he sacrifices himself to kill Kuki after he almost rapes and kills Kiina, but is saved… only to be killed by another character, Ajiki, who was presumed dead until now. he finally gets revenge for Kimari’s attempted murder.

there are still many unanswered questions. why is borderland different? why were there 12 characters to start with when only 5 were artificially killed to get the information from Kiina?
