Surviving each day is still a perilous struggle, and the farm may not be the safe haven Will Fontenot had hoped.
Will’s homecoming to Calcasieu Parish, is anything but welcoming as he comes face to face with the Blanchards, a local crime family who have taken over the town. But long-strained family ties are strengthened when Will’s cousins come to the rescue.
A new community is formed as residents of Sugar Cove Road band together to protect their loved ones. As one thing leads to another, they become increasingly unable to secure their community against a much more powerful foe than the Blanchards.
With foreign fighters quickly approaching, a decision must be made: flee with what they can carry--or stand and fight. They are outnumbered and ill-equipped for the battle that is again at their doorsteps.
The lives of everyone Will loves are on the line, and he'll do whatever it takes to protect them.
This has generally been a decent series until now. For one thing, this skips over periods of time where we only know what happened because they think about what happened and we miss what little action might have occurred. It is very draggy in spots where they mostly contemplate how bad things are. We do get that since it is an apocalyptic situation. There are quite a few writing/editing issues with wrong words (can't take those dump kittens?), missing punctuation etc. Savannah is agonizing to watch as she frets constantly, including worrying about her 7-year-old that has the emotional level of a 4-year-old and literally must be duct-taped to prevent her from alerting enemy fighters. A lot of gung-ho-let's-fight feeling evaporates as they confront the reality of an advancing army, though we do get the token guy with a MAGA hat, apparently so that we know he is a bona fide patriot (ugh-why?). At the very end, there is an address by the new president on his plans for recovery. Wait, did I miss that the Chinese are still here and trying to occupy land? You put the new US capital in Austin which is very close to the fighting instead of much further away? Did I miss something there? I guess I don't care since I see no real point in continuing.
That’s what’s wrong with kids today and how they act. We got spanked and are just fine! This series seems to be getting better with each book. I am glad that Will has stopped whining so much! Most of the gang has survived and are together at the camp. I can not wait until the next book to see what happens next to our gang. Thank you for not killing off any of the main characters and for using Kindle Unlimited.
No Surrender by T.L. Payne is the forth book in the Fall of Houston five book series. I have a hard time reviewing this type of series by each book, so I'm talking about them all as a unit. This series could have benefited from some heavy editing. I think cutting it down to two (or possibly three) books would've been an improvement. A lot of the action in this story gets repetitive. People get into trouble, then fight their way out again and again. I got tired of the main character constantly saying all he wanted to do was protect his boy. I also thought the politics of the situation were a bit simplistic. Communist countries don't cooperate with each other just because they're communist. Unless I was a true blue fan of this genre, I'd skip it.
Entertaining but predictable. As the story progresses, the author blatantly reveals his political views he had hinted at earlier -a distraction that stopped my already waning interest.
No Surrender is TL Payne's fourth installment in the Fall of Houston series. You must read all of the previous books in this series to follow along with Will and Isabella's journey to Calcaiesu Parish in southern Louisiana.
Since the EMP took out the United States' electrical grid, Will and his son have been surviving the war on America. As Houston, Texas crumbles, Will heads to his childhood home and sisters current farm. However the safe haven he once remembered is no longer. Local crime, stretched resources and survival are at the forefront of this action packed novel.
I have enjoyed this series but felt a few of the details was not completed. Example Walker worked on a cart with a pony for Mr and Mrs B. to ride in but then nothing was said about it when they didn’t go. It would have been a good place for the very young to ride in. A young boy, Rusty, was with them in last battle but he was not mentioned when they were rescued. Both details were not up to par with past books. I still enjoyed the book.
First I did enjoy reading it. But it would have been better if I remembered who the characters were and their relationship to each other. I still don’t know who Corey is and it took me quite a few pages to figure it out..
It was an enjoyable read. Action and adventure throughout.
Brilliantly written following on from the rest of the series. Will, Isabella and Caydon along with the rest are on the run from the Chinese army. Although they fight back, Will meets someone he, Isabella and Caydon Met in Huston. Now drafted, Caydon left with his Aunt. Will and Isabella are drafted out to fight.
Savanna, Jason & Will would be forced to leave the family farm. They had trained & drilled for weeks but when the time came everything went haywire!! Now their band of refugees were on the road trying to go north away from the fighting. will they make it there?
Anything is possible when good, determined men and women set their mind to a task! The defeat of the Chinese troops by Will and the others proved that! And getting their group to safety and keeping them safe the work of Savannah and Isabelle. What will we do?
Its refreshing to read a book and the author know the differences between weapons.Thank God not one word about a "assault rifle" was mentioned. Its been extremely impressive and fun to read these book from such a talented author
What an exciting read from start to finish. I love these characters and can't wait to read the next one in this amazing series. Hang on to your chair and be prepared for an exhilarating ride. Happy ☺reading 📚!
Another great book by T. L. Payne. I love the characters in this book and series. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of T.L.’s books.
Why is it when your enjoying a series and get to the last book written it’s upsetting now I can’t wait till August lol. This series is really good can’t put it down. Well written. Onwards and upwards.
This story is one that stays in the mind long after finishing. I think it’s because the characters are so multifaceted and real. Their dialogue is every day human, as is the relationships. I look forward to the next in the series.
I've been reading these books one after the other to see how everything plays out. These stories make me wonder if this could really happen and how ordinary people could cope in a world gone mad.
I want to know what happened to the boy taken in Roseville on their way to the shelter. He was in the garage with them but after the fight with the Chinese he was never mentioned again!! Was his name Rusty????
Good continuation of the story. Nothing spectacular. The pacing was not great - some parts seemed to drag on, but then there were parts that just skipped so much time. I'd like to see how the series concludes.
I love survival books and T.L. Payne is a great writer of these type books. I liked the storyline and characters a lot in this series. Some sad moments and kept me interested. Another great book in the series.
Non-Stop Action and running for your life in this book!! Always protecting the children. But I am worried about where they ended up and what will happen next. On to book five!!
If this really did happen too many people would be unprepared. Not a lot of people are equipped to handle a world that puts us back to pretty much the Stone Age.
