The Indieauthor Guide

The publishing industry is now run like the movie business, with publishers only interested in a narrow selection of likely blockbusters. No matter how good your manuscript is, unless big publishers feel your book is destined for the bestseller lists, they will not buy it. A lot of quality work never finds its way to readers, but at last, with eBooks, Print On Demand and the power of Web 2.0, authors and micro-publishers finally have the means to publish their own books and go indie, just as filmmakers and musicians have done before them. The IndieAuthor Guide takes you through every stage of the process, including illustrated, detailed, step-by-step instructions in its comprehensive Indie Authorship An Introduction; Publishing Options; Getting Organized; Creating Your Brand; DIY Formatting For POD; Editing And Revising; Designing Your Own Book Cover; Publishing Through CreateSpace; Publishing For The Kindle; Publishing To Other EBook Formats; Promotion; An HTML Primer.

“The Indie Author Guide”
Author: April L. Hamilton

I don’t have time to go to school and obtain degrees in the variety of skill sets needed to be successful at turning my vision into a reality. Therefore, I seek out experienced individuals in particular fields to be advised, guided, and mentored by in order to gather the most imperative information related to the goal I intend to accomplish. If I don’t personally know the individual, I have to assume a remote relationship. These relationships allow me to acquire the most valuable information in relation to the subject matter of my goals with a minimized time investment. On some occasions the time investment required is as brief as reading a book, watching an interview, attending a seminar / lecture, or simply having a phone conversation.

Lately, my goals have been related to authoring novels. Starting, I definitely needed some guidance. The majority of time spent pursuing any venture is becoming familiar with the mechanics of the field, and aspiring to become an independent author definitely requires this process of familiarity. For a whole year I researched while honing my skill and establishing my business. This meant I had to invest time in understanding the business, and believe me many mistakes too place. Just recently I was handed a book by a fellow author Ruuben Valdes that simplified my struggle. I wasn’t that enthused initially, due to having shredded through numerous of titles that proved to be over rated, filled with purposeless information related to pursuing an independent literary career.

Taking a chance of possibly wasting my time on redundant information played out to be a sound investment that awoke the ambition that had receded. This book inspired the innovation of my strategy, and replenished the faith I owned at the beginning of my vision of becoming an accomplished writer. This book “The Indie Author Guide” by April L. Hamilton became my bible. Her informational philanthropy brought hope to my debilitating situation.

I don’t know of a book for an author that is as helpful as “The Indi Author Guide.” This writing is stuffed with relevant information to get you started, published, and paid. This book guided me in the direction of do’s and don’ts, marketing my material, selling my writings, and most importantly – how to protect my material and my business. I also learned how to create a network and how to conduct myself within a social network.

The strategies and techniques that are shared have proven to be very effective for me. Her advice and instruction has helped me produce the results I had envisioned when I began my literary journey. My time has been used towards applying the information April L. Hamilton has provided. Doing this, my newfound confidence has inspired me to enhance my skill set which has enabled me to be more effective in what I have set out to do. The tools she extended allowed me to do this with a very modest budget.

I suggest that you invest in this book if you are a striving independent author. Whether your goal is to get paid monetarily or through the response of getting your writings out there and touching lives, the information in this book will be the key to unlock the door to achieving your idea of success.

Thank you April!

Sincerely,
A.J. Briscoe

I first read this book in 2011, when I found it in a bookstore in New York City. I had already decided to write a book (a vegan restaurant guide about Vienna), but hadn't made up my mind yet, if I wanted to self-publish the book once it was finished or look for a publishing house. I knew it was important to make that decision before I actually started writing the book. After reading "the indie author guide," I never looked back. I love the whole self-publishing process, and April L. Hamilton's book was by far the most valuable resource I have come across. I just re-read the book, and am grateful for the many useful tips she provided about organizing files, creating an author brand, publishing options, formatting, editing and revising, cover design, POD publishing, promotion, and other issues related to the self-publishing process.

Of course there are plenty of online resources available to people who want to write and publish books but the time required to go through zillions of such sites and to sieve through the information for relevancy is a huge task. That is where this book by April L Hamilton precisely comes to help and saves a lot of time and effort for people. In an easy to follow style the author has compiled relevant aspects of the trade and explains the essential steps to get going without any outside help. Had I got to read this book before I ventured out on my own, I would have made far wiser decisions than that I made then.

This book helped me with some questions I had about self publishing and many of her tips and suggestions were valuable to me, as a new author, to avoid pitfalls common to a newbie.

I appreciate Ms. Hamilton writing this book and making it easy to understand and follow. It saves me the time of having to peruse site after site to find the information I'm looking for.

Great book!

A solidly useful book. The only book I've found about self-publishing so far that doesn't focus exclusively on nonfiction - plus, this book is filled with all kinds of concrete tips about every step of self-publishing a book.
