Murder Again! Happy New Year!

When two bodies are found on the back lawn of the Hawthorne estate, the police find private investigator Milo Rathkey already on the scene, dragged into the investigation by Mary Alice Bonner who had hoped to use Hawthorne for her annual New Year’s Eve party. The dead are identified as a young couple who were touring their wedding venue the night before. The police think the bride-to-be was the target. Milo suspects the killer was after the groom. All Mary Alice Bonner knows, is that it’s hard to plan a party with bodies on the lawn. Murder Again! Happy New Year!

I did enjoy this but got very confused at the start as was introduced to too many characters all at once and being new to the series, I got lost as to who everybody was. Once I caught up I enjoyed the mystery of who was the main target and why the couple had to die. The characters were interesting and there is obviously a lot of history that I have missed out on, so might just have to go back to the start. The witty banter, jokes and camaraderie of the whole book was fun. I liked the unusual murder weapon and learnt way more about arrows than I need to know.
With her house under renovation Mary Alice needs to find a new place to hold her annual New Years eve party but her plans are once again put on hold when a couple is found dead on the lawn. They were hoping to hire the house for the wedding but as the bride left behind a string of ex finances the police are quick to make her as the target. Milo a police consultant isn't so sure and thinks the groom might have been the main target after he finds out the man had been threatened by a number of investors. Can Milo work out which one was the main target and who was collateral? He will have to it be wants to catch a killer and go to a new years eve party where no dead bodies are found.
The narrator was okay but it didn't help the story that all the characters tender to sound the same. It hasn't stopped me from getting one of the previous books in this series of which he is still the narrator.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

MURDER AGAIN!HAPPY NEW YEAR! A MILO RATHKEY MYSTERY by D.B. ELROGG is the first of the Milo Rathkey mysteries that I have read. I found the characters very different in an odd sort of way especially Milo who has gone from living above a bakery in a dingy apartment to sharing a multi million dollar estate . Milo is consulting with the Duluth police department on another murder. The two victims were murdered with a crossbow , and not only does Milo have to work this crime but he is looking for his ex's husband, dealing with a major snowstorm & the guy who shares the estate is getting threatening emails and punched around. Pretty much a typical day for Milo.

I like Milo. He is a laid back guy with a very strange living arrangement. He likes his vodka gimlets, his cats, and he likes to drive waiters crazy at restaurants with crazy menu question. I cant wait to listen to more of Milo.

The narrator Tom Lennon does an excellent job. I have listened to quite a few of his audiobooks and as always the characters and the reading are great.

I recieved the audiobook free in exchange for a honest review

I love, love, love, love this book!!!

Milo is a remarkable character, i love all the characters in this series. I can't wait for book #5.
Milo is a methodical thinker, being a police consultant.
When a weird murder case or a very suspicious missing person case comes up, call Milo.
Lt. Gramm and the other detectives call on him there is a lot of ground to cover. He has a weird sense of humor that grows on you or you just don't like like. But don't let that take you away from the story line.
His ex- wife calls for help and he gives it along with a case for the police that has gone chilly for a minute.
I don't want to give anything away, especially if you are a Milo fan.
Read this for details.

I've read all of these Milo books and loved them all until this one. It was good, but not as good. Somehow so much of the Milo and Sutherland and Lakeview mansion stuff seemed more rote than energized. The themes seemed a bit tired. There was still some good dialogue and a good plot, but it was a disappointing step down to "good" from "I can't wait for the next one". That having been said, I will look forward to the next one hoping for a comeback from these two excellent authores

I love these books! They are so much fun! The banter is witty and the circumstances Milo gets himself into are crazy. The cast of characters are engaging. Reading one of these books is like visiting with witty, old friends. The plots and subplots always are challenging and interesting. I like that characters from previous novels often appear in the newer ones. I'm looking forward to the next one already.

Like the other three books I have read by this author, this did not disappoint. In fact, it is amazing! Love all the characters and the mystery. I try to read these books slowly so they last longer, but I can’t put them down so it only takes a day or two to finish. Hope many more in the series will be coming!

Once I found these books a few days ago, I have been listening to them via Audible back to back. I’m now on book 5. The characters are likable and the stories are interesting and unpredictable. I love to laugh and have found unexpected humor that has made me laugh out loud.

I’m so glad that I found this author and these books.

The fun continues with Milo, Sutherland, Martha, Agnes, Gramm, and White. This series never disappoints and Murder Again! Happy New Year! delivers. The characters are delightfully engaging, the rapport between Milo and his 'brother' Sutherland is always fun, and Lakesong still has secrets to share. Enjoy!

Be sure to read this series in order.

Fun read

This is my first book by these authors and I will be back for more. I gave it four stars because Milo's quirks got a little old. Don't mind some, but not all time.

Murder Again!

I really like these books. The quirky characters, the twisted plots, etc. And the whole non thing. No bigotry, no racism, no misogyny. Just plain escapism.

Two and a half stars, but I couldn’t round up. Not as good as others in series. Forced silly dialogue and too much about hidden rooms on the estate.
