I was given an opportunity, via the publisher to read The Elimination Diet Cookbook: 110 Easy, Allergen-Free Recipes to Identify Food Sensitivities. I voluntarily chose to review this cookbook and my opinion is freely given.

This elimination diet is designed in three phases, to help those with food sensitivities and intolerances pinpoint the sources of their issues. The recipes are free from the top 8 common allergens (milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanut, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish, with sesame added additionally). The elimination diet is a tool to identify non-allergic food intolerances and involves the elimination and eventual reintroduction of certain foods. The author goes through the differences between allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances, with a good tutorial of basic information. There are shopping lists by week, along with sample menu plans. All of the recipes include reintroduction information at the end, to give readers options no matter where they are in the phased plan.

The recipes are separated out into logical sections, which I have listed below with some of the standouts.

Breakfast and Smoothies: Sunflower Seed Butter and Banana Smoothie; Blueberry Crumble; Crispy Vegetable Fritters; Breakfast Taquitos

Salads and Bowls: Southwest Salad; Quinoa and Veggie Salad; Taco Salad; Spicy Rice Bowl

Soups and Stews: Build-Your-Own- Pho; Fancy Ramen; Lentil and Wild Rice Stew; Hearty Beef Stew

Mains: Red Beans and Rice; Chicken Fajitas; Teriyaki Chicken; Turkey Burgers; Broccoli, Chicken and Rice; Sticky Pork; Pork Carnitas; One-Pan Meatballs

Vegetables and Sides: Coleslaw; Simple Oven Fries; Corn Bread; Broccoli Slaw; Caramelized Brussels Sprouts

Sweets and Snacks: Your Favorite Cereal Bars; Chocolate Chip Cookies; No-Bake Chocolate Bites

Overall, there are not enough pictures in this cookbook to serve as inspiration. Additionally, I did not agree with certain food items being on the elimination diet, namely beans and legumes. Those of us who have IBS are very limited in the amount and type of beans we can eat, so it would have been better had the diet started with these items removed. I did like how the recipes themselves included substitutions for those in different stages, making the cookbook work well for a wider group of people. The Elimination Diet Cookbook is one I would discuss with my doctor before using.

Good intro into why and how to try a food elimination diet to identify allergies, sensitivities and reactions to the top allergen foods; though I wish it addressed things like nightshades and sugar as well, I know one book can't cover everything. The recipes had a variety of flavors and ingredients, which would be great for battling the food boredom that can arise with many elimination diets. I look forward to trying many of these recipes.

It's well laid-out and has useful information. However, most of the recipes for lunches and dinners especially included foods to which I have sensitivities, so those were not as helpful as I'd hoped.
